In between orders I had an idea (since it's huntin' season in my neck of the woods :D ) for a stout tool for the big game hunter. It could also serve as an all around wilderness knife. I'm calling it the Big Game take down Tool. It's main purpose would be for skinning, quartering and dejointing large game in the field. The prototype is made from 1/4" thick by 1 3/4" wide 5160 but I will probably be using O1 as the steel of choice. It has a 4" blade in my semi-skinner style and a new design 4 1/2" handle. It will have a full convex grind and edge. Thurs. Fri. and Sat. this week I'll be deer hunting so I'm going to put it to work. What do you think? :)

Scott, nice little blade you got there. I would be interested to see it after you handle that bad boy.

Put some nice stag on it and I think it would make a great hunting knife. When the stag is on and all is finished send it to me and I will try it out for you on my upcoming Texas hog hunt. :D

I'd love to put stag on it if I had some. :( This one's getting maroon linen micarta. I want it for the end of the week muzzleloader deer hunt. I'm getting low on handle materials. Thanks ;)

try to get some action photos if you get a deer on the hunt. that thing looks SWEET!!!

Looks like a winner Scott. I would love to see it about 30% of the size it is now and either carried in a thin slip case in the pocket or with a 45 deg sheath and a classy little lanyard.

Can that blade chop off hoves? Is it long enough to cut the trachea from
the inside of the chest cavity? And does it have lanyard hole? Why not a
gut hook? A gut hook that can be easily sharpened?

And most importantly, can it make coffee?

Just some thoughts Scott, and deer sausage mixed with crab sounds very
surprisingly tastee.

Good Luck

Thanks again. ;) Here are a couple of strength tests.
This one I hammered the blade into a treated lumber 2x4 and used my foot to split the wood. Look familiar Cerberus? :D

This one I chopped the wood. This was tough because the knife is not long enough and without handles it's hard to grip but it was fun. :)

This pic I wailed away with a 3lb. hammer into a knot. I hammered in about 1/3 of the way. Damn those knots are tough!

I also did some carving on the 2x4

After I was finished, with a little effort, it still shaved hair. :D

That looks like a tough little beast. Any idea on a price yet? Maybe an A2 variant?:D

A2 is not a problem. :D

Very nice looking knife. Wish I'd known it was available before I purchased a knife in a similar configuration. I'd really like one in O1.

Here are two pics of the finished knife. Maroon linen micarta scales. The second pic is the spine with the contoured handle.

I am liking that coke bottle shaped handle Scott.....side to side grinding feels good huh?

Brian,I did the handles vertically on the contact wheel of the slack belt attachment. I like the way it contours the scales. It does sorta look like a Coke bottle. :D

Thats a sharp lookin knife there Scott, burgandy handles really set off that blade, cant wait to see it in stag.
