Even though the balisong is not exactly new to me, I haven't been taking it seriously for a long time.
My first impressions of balisong were imported from movies. It took some time before I could get rid of the notion that the balisong is a "nasty" weapon.
Later as I found out more about this special blade, I began to learn to appreciate its design and its functionality and practicality.
Still, I must admit there are lots of non-knife people who have a pre-conceived notion that any person seen carrying a balisong is probably an undesirable character.
I am basically a folder guy but since I am a collector of knives, I confess I have a couple of balisongs in my drawer.
What I want to know is: Is it impractical to carry a balisong strictly for utility purposes? Or is it more practical to carry a folder?
The clickity-clackaty sound of an opening and closing balisong tends to scare the wits out of some people. So as a normal law-abiding citizen, I am very aware of this sound effect on normal folks.
Is there a silent mode on this Filipino knife? As you may have guessed by now that I am very much a novice as far as balisongs are concerned.
I do admire the balisong and the people who can seem to make it come alive in their hands.
Another question: If I were to buy one VERY GOOD Balisong, which one would that be?
A friend of mine recommended the Benchmade 42. It seems to have a very good reputation. What are some of the really good ones?
