10 people cut off from the rest of the world must learn how to survive. Looks like it might be pretty cool. Hopefully it won't suck.

What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? How would you find food? Water? Shelter?

The Colony is a controlled experiment to see exactly what it would take to survive and rebuild under these circumstances. For 10 weeks, a group of 10 volunteers, whose backgrounds and expertise represent a cross-section of modern society, are isolated in an urban environment outside Los Angeles and tasked with creating a livable society.

With no electricity from the grid, no running water and no communication with the outside world, all the volunteers have to work with are their skills and whatever tools and supplies they can scavenge from their surroundings.

Experts from the fields of homeland security, engineering and psychology have helped design the world of The Colony to reflect elements from both real-life disasters and models of what the future could look like after a global viral outbreak.

Over the course of the 10-week experiment, the Colonists must work together to build the necessities of survival, such as a water-filtration system, a battery bank that powered their electricity, a solar cooker, a shower system and a greenhouse – and even some niceties (a coffee maker!).

I caught a quick commercial for this the other day which piqued my interest. We are obviously a demo they're going after!

I'll definitely check this out, thanks for the heads up.
It looks like the concept of survival actually has some merit :cool:

It sounds like an interesting idea, and hope it doesn't turn out like Expedition Africa.

So, I'm thinking they need to pick 10 guys/gals from here to do it, I don't watch cable anymore, I might keep track of it on-line if I can.

Saw the commercial for that tonight. I am very much looking forward to it.

By the short videos shown on the site this very well might turn out to be a show on what not to do . In the intruder segment they basic let in unknowns and let them dictate what they were and were not going to comply with , answering questions about supplies .

Sounds cool.

I just hope that they don’t edit it into a friggin’ soap opera :jerkit: like they have done with another show we all had high hopes for. :barf:

I hope this is good. I have been wanting a good new show to watch. I have been stuck to only Sportscenter and Survive This recently.

It sure beats watching the usual cr@p that constitutes the vast majority of network programming.

The wood gasification device last week was pretty darn cool. I had never heard of such a thing.

The roving invadors on motorcycles are sorta stupid, but I get the point. People will try to take your goodies in that kind of scenario.

My viewing these days is pretty much limited to Discovery, the History Channel and Spike. So, at least relative to the usual boring stuff on tv, the Colony gets a limited thumbs up.

i hope it is good as well............I have not watched it yet but have it DVR'd

btw.......Cool dog FLIX :D

you forget those other people they were stealing from dont exist. I dont see how those intruders keep from being killed.

That's my biggest problem with this. It's interesting that they try and simulate such a thing, but it just doesn't work for me.

Spoilers ahead...

If the other party being looted from were true survivalist they would be fighting to protect what was theirs, then again they wouldn't leave it in the great wide open either.

Then again the aerospace engineer would have been gone as soon as I overheard her telling the newcomers what they had.
