After lots of begging and research, Delica convinced us to get her a dog. A guy at the local SPCA showed us a few, and after some selection, we adopted one. No health problems, all shots are up-to-date, state licensed, and she's been spayed. Here's our new doggy, Maggie. She's a five-year-old border collie / labrador mix. She's a little skittish, so there aren't any flash photos of her with the family yet.

She already has a 550 cord leash and a metal clasp 550 cord collar. She might EDC a Byrd Meadowlark :)

And no, the pink scarf isn't on her. It's an OD shemagh now. Weird 11-year-old girls.

Golly, Lab and Border Collie? That is smart and playful and stubborn and cold weather hardy and very smart and very voice command smart and quick and, well, good dog for your girls.

Five years old is about when Labs start to mellow a bit.

Maggie is a fine-looking dog. I'm sure she's going to be a great addition to your pack.

Hi Maggie! Good on ya for adopting a fine family.... :D

Good for you. Thanks for saving a dog and giving her a good home. She will get calmer as she gets used to her forever family.

Nice new addition to the family. She looks like a real charmer. Has she exhibited any of the border collie herding instinct? My sister and bro-in-law have pure border collies and they can be a real hoot to watch around kids and smaller animals (I guess they think they're sheep or something :D).

No herding yet. We did give her to Delica the first day (we got Maggie while Delica was at school) and she cried from happiness. I wish I could've snapped a photo. Maggie slept at the foot of our bed the first day, and at the foot of Delica's bed last night. She's going pee as normal, and pooping once a day. She's housebroken. She likes running with us, but not playing with toys. She's pretty shy, but she was kept in a crate at the SPCA for a few months with another dog. She knows how to sit and give me her paw, and now she knows what DOOR, PEE, and FOOD mean. She's not eaten much, but we're working on that...

I have a "borador" as well, more lab than Collie appearance wise, and she is one great dog. My aunt picked her up after someone tossed her out on the interstate. They understand when you rescue them, and are grateful. Crazy smart, picks up on verbal ques very quickly as well, we have to spell things now as "walk" or "harness" are not to be said unless you intend on taking her for a walk. It took a long time for our pup to eat regularly as well, and now pretty much only eats when we are eating, pack thing I guess. Sounds like she is integrating into the "pack" well as she understands her role to protect the little one at night. Ours fought with my wife for a long time trying to establish herself as #2 behind me, she would run around my wife during walks and tuck in behind me, but she now understands she is to protect my wife, but looks to me for protection. Growing up with outside dogs in pins, I have realized having a good dog as part of your family really is an interesting and special thing.
