Anyone have this knife let? I just got my new Winter 2011 catalog today and this one is on the front cover. It really looks nice!! The Tab-Lock sounds like an upgrade on the standard liner lock? From pricing the custom Dozier Trapper, the price for this one is REALLY good. If you have one can you tell me the thickness of the liners and the blade. I know that liner thickness on the custom models is really thick and wondered how this one stacked up to it. Of course the custom model has titanium liners while this one has steel liners, and that would make a difference in thickness.

Thick or thin I really like the looks of this one. The picture is from AG Russell's website;

I dig it. Does anyone know if the clip is situated for both tip down and tip up carry? I'd like to own one if I can carry it tip up.

This knife looks really nice, but I think it's overpriced. I think they could make a successful tab lock without as tight tolerances for much less. Ka-bar successfully did this before. They mention, though, that they needed a factory that can produce very high quality, and later say that it's made in Taiwan. Anyone know if it's the Taichung factory?

Still, you can get a Gayle Bradley for less, and it has carbon fiber handles, better steel, top notch finishing, and a super solid feel. I don't think that this knife will last longer than the GB because of a tab lock; the GB is a tank.

I don't know but the KABAR is producing a lted. of his design in a folder, it is his Phat Bob model using D2 and the reviews have been stellar on that one. 99 bucks or there abouts. I'll snag one probably. Don't know about this model though it looks nice. The tab lock is sort of like the CS liner locks? Let me know how this one shakes out. keepem sharp

It is overpriced for me. However, it's probably as close as I'll get to a custom Dozier folder. Other than handling a few, and speaking with Mr. Dozier, at the Chesapeake Knife Show.

Have not seen this till now. Will never own one. This predudice world. I am a lefty. Looks like a knife like this should have double nail nicks along with the thumbstud for righties or better yet make one for us lefties.

Cutter- No money, no knife. :D
Did you get one?

Understood!! No, not yet, but I'm thinking on it hard.

The Tab-Lock incorporates the lock and stop bar in one piece. The entire blade tang, from top to bottom is locked up via the steel liner.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the tab lock, but I don't get it.

What advantage does this have over a traditional stop pin?

Only two I can think of off the top. It would be one less part, and any wear should be evenly distributed so that vertical play doesn't show up from a worn stop pin.

You have the main advantages right.

The lock actually has 2 tabs; one from each liner; one provides the traditional lock function, while the other serves the function of the stop pin.

Another advantage of Bob's design is that the absence of a fixed stop pin allows considerably more flexibility in tang configuration/sizing/location. No need for pesky slots or cutouts to accommodate the stop pin during tang rotation.

The blade steel is Bohler K110 (same D2 frequently used by Bob) imported from Germany & heat treated to Bob's specifications.
The G10 for the handles is from the USA.
Heat treated liners are 0.060" thick.

As to the tolerances & quality of the knife; I personally inspected over 100 of them & found ABSOLUTELY ZERO blade play in either direction!!
I have inspected rather a lot of knife shipments in my time; this is a first!!

It's been a while since I saw a Tab Lock, but I now remember the way it goes, thanks for the correction!!

Thanks for the liner info also. The more I hear about this one, the more I want to give it a try!:)

Phil Gibbs, what's that Darth Maul style double Civilian thing in your avatar?

I built a few "Double Civilians" a long time ago.
It was an exercise in reducing the blade cavity presence of the tension springs.
I love lock backs, but hate the loss of blade space in the handle consumed by the spring!
