New drawknife, help identify

That S.W. is a stamped owners mark from the past. Not sure who made it. It's a common type. Nasty bend in that edge.

Nice find!

These are very popular among luthiers looking to come by historical tools of the trade. Would love to add such a tool to my collection of working antiques!

well, it's almost done except for handles.....so I'll keep going

That would have been to far gone for me to restore, but if you enjoy doing it why not? And you will be giving an old abused tool new life.
Looking forward to pictures when you get it finished.

I am having a great bit of trouble removing the ferrules, or whatever those metal pieces are called.....
any ideas?

I've got a leather mallet used for making jewelry. Something like that might work. A wood mallet might also work. Just go easy and slow. Think about what you are doing, and you will loosen them. Ferrules is the right term.

Clamp the drawknife in the vise and strike one side of the ferrule then the other with a soft hammer.

With no vise rest the end of the tang on a solid surface and do your striking.

I got it off by clamping the drawknife the vise and prying it off with a wrench.....after trying the soft hammer

BTW there was flaring on the back of it....
and that bend is a chip
