If you like knives made from 52100 A.G. has some new knives made by E.K. Knives and they look good, I'm not sure about the bead blast finish on a carbon steel blade though.

are these the decendants of the Commando Knife maker John Ek which was ultimately bought out by BlackJack Knives whom promptly went bankrupt?

I loved their knives, but haven't found any quality reproductions...

How is it that all 52100 production knives seem to come out of Michigan? Do they grow 52100 there?

You are right mutt it is EK. I read somewhere that the original EK'S were actually imported and that usually means stainless, I'm not sure though. If the new ones have a convex grind it just might replace my S1.

John Ek? importing his knives? I can't believe it...

Everyone knows that John was one hell of a patriot and American, and most of his customers were patriots as well.

If what you read were true, I'd have to reassess my ideology...LOL

History is, that John used to make his commando knives only for Soldiers and Sailors during WW2. I think the business was family owned till BlackJack bought them out. I also heard that one of his daughters is/was an Army officer. This I heard from an 11th special forces group reservist who also worked at a cutlery shop in the Copley Mall in Boston, back when I was in ROTC, over 15 years ago...

Someone should check out the Ek thing...
Mutt...

was the wooden or micarta slab handles, and even the para-cord wrap. The seperate hand-guard is good too...

I read somewhere that John Ek sold only to Militarty Personell because it was the only way he could get around steel rationing during WW-II... dunno if its true, but it sounds plausible enough?

I dont know the history of the Ek production company, but there was one, which Blackjack either bought, or bought the designs from... and now that black-jack is gone, there is still an Ek Knife Company doing production knives.

The Original Ek knives were hand-made by John Ek, here in the US.
Anything with the Ek name on it that was imported was either Ek production, or Blackjack made Ek designs.

http://www.militaryknives.org/ekrad.html A little page with some Custom Ek pics.... nice stuff. That top knife in the first pics inspires something close to lust in me.

These new production knives on A.G.'s page look nice... might be something to add to my list of "I wanna"'s.

I hear that they (or somebody) is making them again in Richmond, VA.
There's supposed to be some controversy about that- If anybody knows the story let me know. Also if there are any Knuts in the Hampton Roads/Tidewater/Richmond area who are up for a visit to have a look, give me a shout. There's supposed to be a military blade museum (?) in Richmond as well.
Cheers,
Mike

During WWII thru the Korean war, John Ek employed disabled veterans, and those unfit, physically, for military service in the armed forces.
His knives were all done in this country.
I do not know about them after Blackjack bought them out, many years later.

These Ek knives are being made by "Bark River Knives", associated with one of the folks from the old Blackjack. Bark River is 20 miles from Gladstone, home of Marbles. I own a knife that appears to be exactly like one of the Ek's on AG's site. It's blade is marked "Expedition Knives" and "Made by Marble's" in gold letters on the bead blasted, convex ground, 52100. If these are, in fact, just like mine don't give up on the "rubber" handle. Mine has just enough resilience and a narrow enough profile to work very well.

(edit) Oops, I'm not entirely sure mine is 52100. Seems like I may have seen "A-2" stamped on the blade. Have to check it out when I get home.

There was an Ek knives website, but I can't seem to find it with a search engine. There was a link in a thread, but the forum search won't work for 'Ek'. It was a nice site too. Single and double edged blades with either micarta or cord wrap were shown for sale. :(

Here it is:
http://www.ekknifeco.com/

I think the site might be down or somehting. I visited the site a couple of days ago but I can't seem to get on anymore. Maybe it's just me?
