What is the steel?

Looks like a great pocket blade.

You will like the SAR3. You might have to take some sandpaper to the ridges on the back of the handle scales. Just a sec with some high grit.

I thought they felt a bit rough for extended use.

Sweet Strider! The grinds on that one are very nice!

Agreed on the SAR3, the handles are beyond aggressive, nothing a little time and sand paper wont fix.

Well when I get Garth to do the SAR 3, I am going to get him to do hand finished handles, so I should not have to worry about this....
The Blade Steel on the Strider WP is S30V.

I used one of the wife's fingernail files, worked very well. Not the rigid flat kind, but one of the kind that looks almost like an elongated 3M sanding pad.

I had an s30v knife once used it at work for a week and went home with a surrated blade chipped all over it I will never buy s30v again but I love infi

Cool! I'll have to look one up, thanks! :D

Wow!!! I have never heard of S30V steel doing this, It is one of the Higher End Blade Steels...I have about 12 knives with it and have not seen this....But you are right about the Busse they are great blades.....:D

I have heard that. People usually follow it up with "After I sharpened the damaged portion out, it never happened again. You need to get to the good steel underneath." Whether it's true or not I'm not sure, but it plays like a broken record whenever S30V is discussed.

In my experience, Greg is dead on. After that first sharpening, a really good sharpening, the steel underneath is usually much better. It seems that the edge forming process really causes the steel at the edge to become rather brittle, its been noted here and elsewhere many many times.

Same here. S30V is ONE of the best steels to ever come along. I have plenty, and its one of my favorite steels.

S30V is not brittle. If fact when heat treateded well it resist chipping very well, and better than most steels.
When it first came out a few had the Rc to high. That was fixed very quickly, and the internet chatter about it rarely comes up anymore.
