Hello people,

I’m looking for a new EDC knife. My current EDC is starting to show the 3 years of 24 hours a day 7 days a week I carry it. I love this knife and will always carry it, but the blade is developing play in all directions and to take some of the strain off it im looking for another knife to pare with it. I think I’ve narrowed it down to two but I’m still open to suggestions. My two knives of interest are the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 or the Benchmade Griptilian full size. The main uses will be light use. Mostly opening packages, and light EDC tasks. It will also be used for a little heavier use like wood/fire prep, carving stakes, making traps, and if necessary emergency survival use.

Both are great options. I prefer the Para 2 myself but you can't go wrong either way honestly. They have different lock types, the compression lock and the axis lock. Both are very strong and easy to use. Mostly comes down to personal preference and ergos.

Thanks for the input I'm still not sure which one is ringing my bell.

Yeah... You might just need to buy both and sell the one you love less.

...or, don't sell it and keep both. :D

If you have an REI nearby you should be able to go hold a Griptilian. They tend to stock a decent selection of Benchmade stuff.

I do like the para2 aesthetically over the Benchmade, but I’m weary of the possibly fragile tip. Do you think it's something to worry about?

Yes you will be charged for making this thread. You must please the Knife God's and they demand a new knife in their name. Either knife will suffice, but let it be known future offences won't be taken as lightly.

But all kidding aside, you won't be charge for anything. All your doing is asking for advice, the things that they want you to pay for a account concern things such as selling goods, etc. And if you accidentally overstep your bounds people here a pretty quick to give you a heads up so you don't do it again.

Both knives are quite good to my understanding, I can't comment on either as all I know about them are from what I've read about them as I've never handled either knife. But from what I hear about them I wouldn't mind owning either knife, this one really does come down to personal preference.

If I had to choose I probably take my chances with the spyderco as I can carry it tip down as tip up carry drives me crazy despite the fact I think I prefer the blade/handle shape of the benchmade more. As I said 2 outstanding knives, it comes to personal preference, the knife carry would be my determining factor what will be yours?

Haha thanks a lot. This is my first attempt at using a forum so I’m not positive on all the rules yet. I’m going to send the knife Gods one of those dollar knives from Wally world. I hope it satisfies them.

I’m still deciding which on I like. I like the Spyderco a lot but I’m afraid I’ll hurt the tip. The Benchmade seems like a much more heavy-duty knife with possibly reduced performance because of the grind/thickness of the blade.

Thanks a lot for your help.

As already suggested if you can do it get both and see what is more to your liking.
I prefer the Griptillian myself but the PM2 is also a great knife but I don't carry mine as often because the locking system is not one of my favorites.

My favorite knife in that size range is the Benchmade 950 rift. Its built solid enough to handle plenty of use and the blade stock and grind is high enough to slice pretty well too.

I've owned both and while both are excellent knives I personally preferred the Para 2. If you are willing to look at others though, I would recommend looking at something from the ZT line that suites your fancy as well.

Try to hold both before purchasing. I like both blades, but a frequent complaint is that the Grip feels a bit cheap due to the plastic handles. I would lean towards the Para 2, but I would take a Benchmade 710 over either one.

Either one will serve you well, and of the two choices I would pick the Paramilitary 2 for in-hand ergonomics and blade geometry. The fine tip raises a concern at first glance, but its tougher than it looks. If light duty is what you'llbe uusing it for, it will be more than capable.

Thanks to all the people who commented on this thread. I really like the look of the 710 and the 950 rift. I am in a position where i can handle both So before I decide i'll fondle the blades.
