New EDC Knife: Folding (possibly fixed)

Edit!

Original Idea:
Big fan of Case knives and within the past few years have gone back to carrying them. However, I miss having a pocket clip on my pocket knife. I carry alot in my front pockets; wallet, keys, work keys, phone, change, etc and my pocket knife seems to get lost. Tried the back pocket for carrying my blade and that was terrible. I am looking to get a USA made folder. I may need to get two as I work in an office from 8-5. I need something lighter for office duty since I wear khakis. I really like medium to large folders as I have large hands. I also like a solid feeling knife. Don't wanna spend over $100 for sure.

Another thought that has crossed my mind since joining this forum is carrying a fixed blade. I used to have a small diving knife I wore around my neck and loved it. What are the pros/cons of this? Any one carry an EDC fixed blade in the office?

Conclusion:
Thank you for the replies so far. After doing some thinking this is what I have decided. I do not want to go back with a knife that has a pocket clip. The reason I got away from those is due to hanging the clip on things and the knife coming out of my pocket. I am very happy with my Case Sodbuster CF. It's thin and light and very sturdy. I think I might like to get a horizontal sheath for it (any suggestions) so I don't have to carry it in my pocket with my wallet, keys, work keys, etc.

I am still very much interested in a fixed blade edc though. I've been looking at other threads for suggestions as well.

Welcome. Maybe if you can focus in on one specific question, we can help you better. It seems like you are asking about suggestions for a folder or fixed blade for under 100 dollars....maybe narrow that down a bit.....

The Benchmade Mini Griptilian and Griptilan are recommended often. Same goes for the Spyderco Delica/Endura, Ontario Rat 1/Rat 2/ Utilitac. Kershaw has some great offerings as well. Youll most likely see these knives listed multiple times in this thread and for good reason. Theyre great folders! Because you work in the office and like larger knives, I think you are going to have to spend some time finding the right balance between liking large knives and keeping the knife people-friendly!

As for the fixed blade question, I carry the Esee Izula 2 pretty often. It usually rides on my belt, horizontal, and in the front. I carry it when I for see some harder cutting tasks that I dont want to use a folder for. But I find my mini griptilian enough for the day to day things.

Welcome to the forum!

I am sitting in my office currently with three fixed blades on my person, but I am a little sicker than most. I have a fixed blade neck knife. This is predominantly carried as a backup if ever needed, and it is always around my neck if lounging around the house in a robe and boxer shorts or flannel pajamas. The down side to the neck knife is that it is not easily deployed wearing business casual or even formal clothing. The up side is that it is very much concealed.

I have in my weak side pocket a small Bark River Knives North Star EDC residing in a pocket sheath. The entire sheath and handle are concealed within the pocket, and deployment is safe and easy. This is my go to EDC for most cutting chores, at least when I am fully dressed.

In my strong side hip pocket I carry a Bark River Knives Gunny, also in a pocket sheath. This knife I carry predominantly for defensive purposes as it is larger, but also in case I ever need to really thump on a knife if I end up in a survival situation unexpectedly. With this knife, the handle sticks out of the pocket by a couple of inches, so it may not be for you at all.

I have only recently gone to fixed blade carry. For years I have carried a pocket knife, and within the last year and a half I have been infected with this insane knife obsession virus (KOV for short). As a result, I have spent a lot of money trying to find the most capable folder to serve me in an oh crap moment, and I have come to learn that even a small fixed blade knife is much more capable with respect to strength than any folder out there, no matter the cost. As a result of what I have learned from my experience, there will likely be no folding knives of any sort coming my way in the foreseeable future. In fact, I may put the ones that I have owned and carried up for sale, or give them to family and friends. Of course the down side to fixed blade carry is that it does limit the size of the blade and knife overall if concealed carry is important. And in most office situations, concealed carry is important. The North Star EDC that I cited above provides me with a four finger grip, 3.375" of blade that is .125" thick in CPM 3V that will take a thumping, completely concealed within my front pocket. Weight is 3.25 ounces plus the sheath and the mini flashlight. I own some good examples that are smaller, but nothing larger that I can completely conceal in the business casual dress I wear daily. If I add a sport coat to the dress, I have the larger knife in the inside pocket in cross draw mode.

AG Russell sells horizontal pouches or belt pouches as does I believe Knives Ship Free. I use the leather slips (sleeves) that KSF sells for my larger folders.

I have gravitated to Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) knives after many years of using Case slip joints. I like these better, but they are generally more expensivie than Case. I like the Trapper Patterns (#42 is my favorite) the best and GEC makes a number of those as well as a single blade "sod buster". The Northwoods knives are good too and generally made by either GEC or Queen.

bluemetalchurch has "sold" me a puma major on another forum, and has never delivered it. If any of you want details, I can provide them. That forum has warned its members to avoid trading with bluemetalchurch.
