Needed a new weekend EDC light and only had $50 to spend and I ended up with a Streamlight Protac 2L. 260 lumens on high, also with a low output and a fast strobe which is a requirement for me. I could have went with something from Fenix or eagletac that had higher lumens for a similar price but I didn't need something higher then 300 for this particular light which I wanted to only have high/low/strobe which it does. I am really pleased with this light, it's bright enough for an EDC light and I like that I can access strobe mode very quickly. All you need to do is double momentary tap the tail switch and strobe will go on until you release the cap or you can full click and leave it on strobe without your thumb there. The point being I can have it on strobe virtually as soon as it's out of my pocket and in my hand, no fumbling through modes to get to. A bright strobe can be very unexpected and disorienting at night and can give you a couple second advantage in a defensive situation.
I have a smaller light I carry in place of this if I need to day to day, but this light is really a good size. Not really small but not big or bulky at all either. It's perfect.
I'm still planning on getting another light soon that has a very high out put.... Maybe up to 800 or so for a high mode and something like 200-400 for a medium mode. Once I do that this Streamlight will become my backup light If I want, but I may just use that brighter light for hiking and keep it on one of my packs. Not sure yet. I of course have a handfull of other lights as well but they're not "tactical" or high quality ones. All LED, but only around 70-90 lumens or so. I've got 2 in my car and 2 in my hiking/emergency pack. I consider those all backups.
I like Fenix, sure fire, Streamlight, and eagletac lights so I had a few in my price range this time but just ended up choosing the Streamlight, even though any of the lights from those other brands would have been good too.
The light itself is very solid, it's aluminum. It is indeed light weight which is great. Came with 2 CR123a batteries which as we all know is a very popular power source for flashlights now. It comes with a good sheath which is a nice plus. Overall for $47 I'm happy with it. I'll get some pictures at night later, it's a very clean white light out of a C4 led.
