New EDC - Spyderco Manix 2

I heard that the original manix was the tank. the manix 2 is supposed to be more of a humvee.

That's not the best metaphor IMO. A humvee doesn't even approach the firepower, armor and size of a tank. Based on what Sal has said, I believe the two knives are comparable in strength. The mini-Manix 1 and 2 are also the same size. Therefore, they should be described as "tanks" with different features. :D

ok, maybe the manix is a main battle tank and the manix 2 is a light tank. that's much better for me cause I am waiting on a manix 2 and to be told that it was not as hard use as the manix. that sure put me down but this raises me :D

Whoever told you that sounds like they have no idea what they're talking about. Wouldn't it just be a smaller tank? It doesn't appear to give up anything in any metric of strength or toughness.

The Manix 2 is an update of the Mini-Manix. It has some distinguishing features that may actually make it tougher than the Mini that came before it. The M2 has a hollow ground blade with no distal taper and full liners. The Mini had a full flat ground blade with skeletonized liners. These two characteristics alone show that the M2 may be more tank like than the Mini. It's just a slightly smaller one with a different lock.

3mm blade thickness instead of 4mm.

That's not really a stunning rebuttal since the both the Manix and the Mini-Manix had a distal taper and FFG blades, both of which will reduce the overall strength when compared to a saber grind with no distal taper as on the M2. So far there's no objective reason to consider the overall strength of the M2 less than the Mini. Some people just don't like new things and I think that's the reaction we're seeing by some users.

not a rebuttal dude, just pointing out another difference. I am really happy with what you are saying. I really wanted the original manix or mini manix but since none are available, I had to settle for a lighter tank. I'm just actually playing devil's advocate but believe me, I'm happy with this.

IMHO,I've seen quite a few of the old manix's which had a whole lot of vertical blade play compared to the new Manix 2 which they are light years away in quality. The lockup on these knives are the most solid of any Spyderco knife excluding ball locks. Top notch all the way.

Thanx Razorburn. Appreciate.

Our new engineer and our new factory manager have done wonders.
