Whenever I post here about my EDC folder, I always mention my SAK. The SAK is truly my everyday use knife. I use it for all of my cutting needs. That said, I always carry a Spyderco Delica clipped to my pocket as an emergency knife (by emergency I mean anything that may require an easily accessible, and/or quick one handed opening cut). In the last 4 years, I've managed to lose 3 Delicas. I do have a 4th Delica I put away as a backup, but I'm getting tired of losing my Delicas, so I thought I'd give the cheaper Persistence a try. That way if I lose it, I won't mind as much. It looks like a good knife, and generally gets good reviews so I'm looking forward to giving one a try. Should be here next week. At only $33, about half the price of the Delica.

I think I'd try to figure out why you're losing some many knives and maybe modify your carry technique. I have never lost a Spyderco clipped inside my right front pocket, and not sure how you could have 3 Delicas go missing. I will say that the Persistance does have a tighter clip and the G-10 is much grippier (if that's even a word)than FRN

Being heavier and having more bulk you will notice it more. For you that is a good thing. When if falls out hopefully you will notice and be able to find it.

How have you lost so many knives? What is your carry style? Don't get a Sebenza unless you figure out you knife loss issue!

For what it's worth... I carry an Endura as my "emergency" knife backed up by a Tenacious. At the price of those cheap Spyderco's who cares if you chip the blade of damage it. While I find myself wanting more expensive knives with exotic steels VG-10 is good enough for me. I just don't do harsh cutting. People in the edge test videos prove that if you must cut through a board, 200 boxes, old shoes and other things you can between sharpening. 8Cr13MoV is not up to VG-10 but so far it holds an edge long enough and it is effortless to bring that hair whittle edge back!

Stop losing knives!

I know it sounds bad losing so many Delica', but I have a bunch of knives and haven't lost them. In fact I bought my first Delica with an Endura, Cricket, Dragonfly, and Ladybug. I still have all of those, but the Delica just doesn't like my pockets I guess. Anyway...

I received my Persistence in the mail today, and I thought I’d comment on my initial impression of the knife, and how it compares to my Delica.

1. I wasn’t expecting much, but now having received the Persistence I can honestly say it is nice knife. Side by side with my other Spyderco knives, fit and finish is as nice as any of them.

2. Blade is perfectly centered. Nice edge on the blade. G10 handle is very nice, and I can see nothing that indicates poor workmanship. Fit and finish is as good as any of my other production knives.

3. It’s comfortable in the hand, and will make a nice EDC knife IMO, and if by chance I lose it, it’s half the price of the Delica to replace.

Now with that said, if I had to pick the better knife between the Delica and Persistence for my EDC, I’d say the Delica is the better knife primarily for three reasons.

1.I like the thicker blade tip of the Delica.

2.The Persistence is a little on the heavy side for my taste.

3.Blade retention is better on the Delica, although I don’t expect the Persistence to come open in my pocket.

I will start carrying it tomorrow, and it will be interesting to see how it holds up and compares to the Delica over time. If I continue to like it, I could see buying another and a couple of others from the line. Surprisingly nice knife overall.

Also I appreciate the comments.
