Howdy folks, I'm narrowing down my taste in what's an ideal EDC for me, and was wondering if you could recommend a knife that fit the bill.

I have a Benchmade 921 Switchback, and it's nearly perfect, but the small blade on the back is just hokey, and I'm really just not a fan. I like that it has a classy look, a 3.25-3.75" blade, metallic handles, thumbsutds, and the blade shape is really great.

My only gripes are that it has that little blade on the back, and that it can't be carried tip down, but that's not a deal breaker.

I was looking at the Benchmade 940, and while it looks nearly perfect, I'm not a huge fan of the drab-looking colour, and I don't know about the handle scales.....

I also own a leek, a Spyderco Centofante3, a mini-grip, a native, and while they're great, I want something with a little more length, metal handles, and a great look.

Any suggestions?

Within the Spyderco line, did you look at the Volpe? The look is usually love it or hate it right off the bat for most peolpe, but it's tip down, got metal handles and very smooth action.

For Benchmades, what about the 635 or 520?

I second Adventura. It is a great knife, I can not live a day without it.

I didn't think he would want to spend that much, other wise I would have sugested it too.

I'm sorry you feel that way. However, it won't help the person who started this post find out which knife they want to get, so maybe next time you could PM your complaints directly to me and leave the thread alone. :)

Back to the matter at hand, I forgot about the Stretch and the Adventura for the metal handled Spyders. Those would both be good options to look at.

Okay, the stretch, adventura, and volpe are out for various reasons, mostly because I prefer studs, but also because the serious recurve on the adventura, the stretch has a good blade shape, but I'm not crazy about the inlays, and the volpe is near perfect, I just really prefer studs.

The benchmade 440 is beautiful, but lacks a clip, and the blade is a little short. The 635 is quite nice, but I wasn't a fan of the 630 when I had it, and the blade is a little too curvy for my tastes for EDC. The 520 is way too beefy in the handle, and I'd be walking around hearing "is that a knife or are you just happy to see me?" all day long.

The 960 is quite nice as well, nearly perfect, but a touch short, and I would like to explore all my options before I commit. A sebbie would be great, but I don't know if I want to go that pricey.

The 960 strikes me as a "duh" choice for you. It's slightly smaller, but if you hold the 960 next to a 921 (closed), I am struck with the impression that it's the same knife minus that rear blade. I think I have a slight preference for the 921 though, personally.
