Daddy Humppa recently gifted me with an Ahti Tikka which I took to the field yesterday and will take to the range today. I'm carrying it on my hip along the outseam of my trousers with the sheath then tucked into the pocket. This is such a light and handy knife, I think it may well become a daily carry. I'll just need to have a left handed sheath cut for it to move it to my left side.

If you haven't checked out this knife, and prefer smaller knives to larger ones, you owe it to yourself to check out this knife. In very short order it is already becoming a favorite. It truly is a great knife

I firmly believe in the small sheath knife as a better edc than nay knife that folds. To me, a small puuko is the ideal un-folding pocket knife, with nothing to fail, nothing to pull open, no hidden areas to collect gunk, and lighter weight to boot. I've carried a small puuko and loved it, and could do away with all my folding knives, except for one factor. Living in the People's Republik Of Maryland, it's illegal to carry any concealed fixed blade. Any. But if a knife folds, and is classed as a penknife under Maryland law, a 6 inch bladed folder can be carried with no problem, but a tiny Buck Hartsook is illegal.

I love the whole concept of the pocket un-folder. It's a win-win for the user.

congrats! Puukkos are traditionally worn crossdraw, so imho what you have is already a left side sheath see

Thanks to the generosity of Humppa I'm now the proud owner of a puukko.

"In Finland, receiving a puukko as a gift is considered an honor. The idea behind this is the presenter gives the recipient a tool which is essential for both woodworking, preparing food and as a sidearm, and that the presenter takes into account the well-being of the recipient."

And, I suggest you send Andi a coin, part of this tradition:

My Dad always taught me it was bad luck to give a knife; it must be sold so that the recipient did not feel beholden.
Thus the low price of a small coin evolved to retain the friendship.

Some googling turned up this

It helps explain why some people give a knife with a coin, and some give a coin in return for a knife

I believe it is legal to carry a puukko in California, as long as it is not concealed. Note the words "openly suspended". I dont know for sure, but I would think having it tucked half in the pocket would violate the rule..

25(d) Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly suspended from the waist of the wearer are not concealed within the meaning of this section.

Same here in California.

Legalities aside, I agree with jacknife about the edc matter. I carry mine in a bag, which does not make it illegal, but easier to explain.

My humble opinion is that small Roselli puukkos make excellent edc knives, too. I have the UHC - steel version, Bear claw. I just came across the smallest Roselli puukko, the grannys tooth and since I got a good price bought it. I just might give as gift to my daughter in law. Anyway the size is perfect for edc. Also the non-traditional Roselli sheaths make them easy to carry in the pocket.

I might take some wood off the sides of the handle and make the handle otherwise a bit more interesting. Also I could polish the blade, now it has a black finish.

Since these are all based on puukko or scandi blades, I assume they fit this thread. If someone prefers full tang or skeleton tangs, the Ezo necker is an excellent choise. With wood handle it in my opinion looks good. They dont cost too much and are high quality knives. The Grannys tooth is a workhorse, I think the handle still needs something.

Edit. If you get an Enzo necker as ready-made knife, do yourselves a favor and sand the corners of the handle more round. I did and now it is a much better knife for that modification. The handle was the only thing I could complain. After that I dipped the handle in teak oil, as I do with all of my wood handle knives.

Excepting I'm left handed and with this sheath on right side the blade is facing wrong way for proper cross draw. If I reach to right side with left hand and pull knife edge will be up and spine will be down. If it was a left handed sheath, that would not be the case.

My hunting knife I wear on my right side for cross draw. The belt loop is arranged so the grip is forward canted when sheath is on right side for left hand crossdraw. It will also result in an edge down/spine up when drawn with left hand. This is a truly left handed sheath custom made to my specifications for my custom knife
