I never thought it would come to this...a slip-joint as my edc, I was always a lock-blade guy (yes, OK, always paired with an SAK). However, I just received a Schatt&Morgan "Wildcat Driller" in ATS-34 from Cumberland Knife Works (wonderful people to deal with), and cannot believe the fit, finish, and...strength of the thing. That dual backspring really does the job. No chance to test it yet, just got the edge almost where I want it. I'll have more commentary in future posts.

Yeah, they kind of, er, slip up on you. :D For some, like me, it's coming full circle, like coming back to the farm, and for others it is new country just waiting to be explored, but a lot of folks find their way to the good, old fashioned slippies. Don't be surprised if you suddenly notice one day that you are actually carrying two, three, or even four slippies just cause you like having them around. My Kershaw Ken Onion Blackout is feeling negelcted. That was my EDC until slippie fever overtook me. Feed the fever!

Definitely let us know how it works out for you. And enjoy!

I have a few Slip Joints that I EDC in rotation. As long as you don't try to stab or do stabbing type cuts they are fine! I use mine mainly for Drawcuts & if I do have to do a stabbing type cut... I make sure my fingers are out of the way!

It took some doing, but I've finally gotten the edges where I want them. The ATS-34 on this seems to be up there on the hardness scale; it took a fair amount of work with a Sharpmaker and an Idahone (slightly greater angle takes off the wire edge well).

My 9-year old wants to start whittling--but school work comes first, so any further testing will wait until this weekend. It also gives me time to get a smaller piece ready for his use.

Best regards.
