New edge pro stone not flat.

I sharpened up 5 knives for a friend today. As usual everything was going fine up through 600. I recently picked up a1000 grit stone and finished the knives off with it. I checked each blade after the 600 grit. All were just as you would expect. Shaved easily, cut news paper easily. When I switched to the 1000 stone something didn't feel right. It felt like the stone was slightly wavy. My edges seemed to dull also after using the stone. I went and washed the stone and as it was drying, a pattern emerged. Is this fixable on my end our send it back?

I had one just like that. I used their stone flattening kit. If you don't have one, you could rub it on a piece of glass with silicon carbide (or sandpaper) on it. If you don't want to do it, just send it back.

i've never seen a perfectly flat stone brand new from factory, this one is funkier than most but anyway flattening is part of the maintenance, from what i undestand not your ? if so you should pick a piece of glass and some sandpaper and flatten ALL your stones.

I can see having to flatten a well used stone. But I think they should come from the factory flat. I should not have to spend more money or buy their flattening kit with a new stone.

sure, i get your point, but i still havent found one perfectly flag stone from the factory in 10+ years. and thats with high dollar japanese stones not only the relatively cheap EP stones.

on a side note EP stones are quite fast wearing, like most waterstones. i flatten mines almost after each sharpening session... you should already own something to do that, theres no point spending money on one of the most precise sharpening gear and leaving the stones not perfectly flats imvho ....

Yeah, that's just some marks left from when Boride sawed the stone up. Just use whatever method you flatten with to get rid of it if it bugs you. New ones are only ~$4 or so anyway, if you are particularly bothered, I'm SURE they'll swap it out for you.
