New Emerson karambit polymer???

Ernest Emerson has apparently come out with an all-polymer version of his hot $200 kerambit. Does anyone know anything about this? There's not a word about it on Emerson's website nor any other knife site I've checked. I've done a very thorough Internet search as well. Nada. And ... why an all-polymer knife? The only thing I can think of is to smuggle it through airport metal detectors, which, in this day and age, would be sheer insanity.

Here's what the distributor says:

Thank you for your inquiry.

This product is a copy of a folding all metal Kerambit that Emerson has designed. The metal version sells for $189 retail and are in short supply. These 2 knives are produced and marketed in conjunction with a west coast manufacturer called Shomer-Tec - primarily marketing to the police and security industry. Emerson did the design work and Shomer-Tec produced the product. We are an official supplier for this product as our friends at Shomer-Tec wanted to expand their markets.

The polymer used in this knife is very durable as is it made from a 60% glass filled composite. But being that it is a composite, and like all composites, it will break when it reaches a point of stress (as would most metal blades as well). For light to medium duty use it should prove to be very effective and very durable. It is great as a personal defense item, light duty tool, letter opener, or as a collectable.

We appreciate your interest and we hope to hear from you again.

Welcome to Bladeforums! We have so many forums here it can be confusing at first, but you'll figure it out ... in the meantime I'll move this thread to the Blade Discussion Forum for you.

Was I just saying we have a lot of forums here? We have so many sometimes I get confused myself ... this thread really should be in the Emerson Forum. I'll move it there now. :footinmou

Dear Cougar Allen,

Thank you for putting my posts in the correct forum.

Best, Hotwriter

i have seen these in the shomer tec catalog, i have no idea what they are good for,

Just a thought, as it states in the Shomer ad, could these knives not be used by LEO's that work in ballistics/bomb disposal, etc. where a non-metallic/non-magnetic knife would be desirable?

It makes a good shower knife in case you decide to stay at the Bates motel...it could be utilized as a trainer also.
