New Emerson Owner Question For You

Hello,

I just bought my first Emerson, it's a Mini CQC-15.

Overall it looks to be a quality knife, no blade play, solid lock up, great blade centering good F&F. I don't see how people say they have poor F&F. Seems just fine to me. The handle is a bit small for my hands, wishing I got the full size CQC-15.

I thought all Emersons have the year of manufacture on the blade, mine doesn't.

Can anyone confirm?

Mine does say 1955 under the thumb disc, but I don't think it was manufactured in 1955.

Thanks,

Weston

Hopefully they bring it back. I loved how all my Emerson had birthdays. I connected with them more

They stopped marking the date in 2015.

The mini CQC 15 is a great knife. I bought mine last year. Carry it everyday.

It's my only Emerson, I don't really need another with this one. [emoji2]

Welcome to the Emerson side. The mini-15 is a great starter. I have 1824. It's in my pocket right now getting ready to go to work. 1955 is the serial number for that mini-15. Emerson stopped putting years on the blade this year. Yours is entirely normal.

I would like to thank everyone for their replies. It is a little upsetting to hear Emerson decided to remove the birth mark. It's the little details like that I appreciate, not a deal breaker but just saying.

On a side note I did send the knife back to the retailer (knifecenter) due to the handle shape/size being too small. I have medium/large hands and the Mini CQC-15 has a such a small space in between the front and back. Seems like the Mini Commander would allow more rearward space for that pinky finger. I haven't handled any of the other Emersons but I definitely want one.

Now I'm thinking either the full size CQC-15, full size Commander, full size CQC-7 spearpoint, or a Sheepdog flipper spearpoint.

I'm really confused honestly, I just want one.

Can anyone comment on the above models?

Thanks for your input!

I suspect that you'll end up buying more than one, but the 7 is a great place to start.

The 15 has that hook at the bottom of the handle. Thats what kept me away from the mini15. You will find one. Im a cqc 8 / horseman fan. Commander is nice too. I was recently lookind at the vindicator.

Apparently I care anyway, that's why I started this thread.

Thank you very much!

i think he meant it more in the way of....... its not a big deal to him.....not so much a hammering on anyone's opinions or curiosity. least that's how i read it.

i liked the date, was neat to get older models sitting in a store stock or web dealer, brand new and unused. still can, just can't tell when it was made is all.

I think you may find the Sheepdog to be a happy medium. The handle has a slight "hook", more of a curve actually, unlike the pronounced one on the 15 which helps with hard pull cuts. The blade and handle length is more of a "mini" compared to the regular 15 or Commander. As far as the 7, the very straight handle and small index finger choil makes it fit a broader range of hands IMO but it's definitely not as ergonomic as the others.

I too miss the date stamp.

The full sized 15 will give you a bit more space but you still may feel somewhat cramped. Here is a comparison pic. From top to bottom: 1) Commander, full-sized 2) Mini-Commander 3) Mini-CQC15 4) CQC-7A, full-sized. You may want to start with a full-sized Commander or CQC-7 and see how they feel to you.

Glad you're digging the new Emerson...nice one by the way! As to your question for the next one, all the ones you mentioned are great choices. The Commander and CQC-7 are classics, but the others are great too! Out of those you list, my favorite is the CQC-8. I have a Super 8, and it feels like it was bespoke tailored for my hand. Plus I really love the blade profile. I look forward to hearing what you choose!

I doubt your hands are bigger than mine, the 15 fits my hand great, as does the sheepdog. I have yet to find a bad Emerson, just ones I personally don't find appealing
