OK, so I just got done writting an entire book about the C10FPBL (E4 FFG, blue) that just arrived in my mail while playing with said Spydie. And deleted it.

Basically the factory edge isn't perfect. All my other Spydies are/were. Is this a legitimate issue or should I stop whining and break out my stones?

It is not common to find a Spydie grind that is less than first rate. If yours is truly not good - and I believe you if you say it - you may want to exchange it with the retailer or send it to Spyderco. It might also depend on if the edge is just a little less than perfect, or if its really bad. I don't speak for Mr. Sal, but I bet he wants you to be happy with his product.

Edit: if you want to send it to me with return shipping, and trust a total stranger on the internet, I'll give it a mirror edge on my Edge Pro and send it back to you.

Its just not perfect- definately not terrible. Just a bad first impression with a little more vertical play than I'm used to, a not perfect edge and all the extra oil on it. I'll probably just live with it as I purchased this one for a work knife... Just wanted some opinions.

As for pics, all I have is a cellphone cam, so I'll try but I'm less than optimistic ;)

If that's your only gripe, I say get the stones.....unless it is so dull that it won't slice paper.

No offense, but you're being too picky. Almost all my Seki FRN models are uneven bevels. As long as it cuts, it is good. Try getting a $150 Benchmade and having bevels that won't even cut anything...

Well, I've carried the FFG Endura a couple times and I've thoroughly cleaned and lubricated with Triflow and readjusted the pivot screw tension. Still notably more vertical play than either my E4SE or my E4 ZDP-189. On top of that the action is significantly stiffer than either. I think I'm gonna have to contact Spyderco on this one- its not BAD but its definately not feeling "right" compared to my other E4's...

I can't speak towards the blade play issue as all of my Spydies lock up nice. But, as far as the grind lines go, they are ground by hand by different individuals, so all will not be equal. But, I don't look at that as a big problem personally. Nothing a little sharpening can't take care of. Good luck with it though!
