So, the suspense is finally over! Received my ESSEE 5 today from Knifeworks.com. Gotta say, they were really quick to get it out and shipped.

I am very impressed with this knife, to say the least. I have been looking for the perfect survival knife; something that will take whatever is thrown at it- I believe I've found it.

The knife feels great in hand, especially with the canvas micarta handles. Balance is awesome, and just a comfortable grip all around. For awhile I was going back and forth between the BK2 and the 5, but, to be honest, the fit, finish, and WARRANTY can't be beat!

Thanks again for the numerous posts on here in regards to the quality and aesthetics of ESEE's knives. Now I am seriously looking at getting the Izula for my dad and I... then again, the H.E.S.T. is looking pretty sweet.

and the addiction begins.
I started with a HEST. It filled a role for me, and I was taken with the design.
Next was a RATPACK w/ a RC-6. Then a Junglas.
Next is either a 5 or a DT 4. I am justifying needs for them now. Bomb shelter knife, trail knife. Maybe I need a clip point 6 for the truck....

Fantastic knives and a great company all around.

Congrats... I have the ESEE 5 and you'll love it. As everybody has mentioned, welcome to the addiction. What color did you get?

I have a HEST and feel no need to purchase an Izula-I think the HEST is so comfy I'd be disappointed with anything less. Great choice, I love my RC5 like it was a human being

You're killing me here! Not gonna lie, I am lured in by the fact that if I go with the Izula, I can wear it around my neck. I thought that being a medic, it might be kinda handy being "right there".

On the other hand, the HEST as mentioned before on this thread, grabs my attention by its looks alone. It appears to be the perfect length for an EDC.

take off the scales and it'd make a low profile necker as well.

I have my H.E.S.T wrapped and it is alot more low profile and it still feels great in hand. like RYP says "make it your own"

Been beating on my 5 since I got it a week ago. Great survival knife that most likely will never fail.
Confidence big-time with that blade in the bush. Some folks think it's too heavy ,but not me. I like the thickness and the ability to do most any task ,and come back asking for more. The grip is great !

You're right - it's the perfect length, and the perfect thickness for an EDC. Now if they would just lose that silly bottle opener.., it would be overall perfect.

Yeah, the bottle opener bothered me a bit ( I don't use bottles) , but I think it's a good lashing and pry point though. I'll admit though Doc , I liked your modded pics of the hest without it.

My new Hest coming in a couple of days

I started with a 5 when they first came out. Great knife. Then I wanted something a bit more versatile so I got a 4. Also a superb knife that I use a lot for backpacking and camping. Before the logo change I got a 3 for EDC. What's next? :D

Since I don't live around the woods in Ohio anymore (down in urban FL :( ), I went out front and chopped a few times at a palm tree :D then stabbed that beast into it, followed by testing out the pommel :D

To Doc-Canada- I personally like the bottle opener on the HEST, but wonder if it only provides a break point for the blade.

Congratulations. I'm in the passaround w the 5, it will probably push me over the edge to buy. I have a 4, izula (my edc), and hest. I use the bottle opener as a pot lifter. Handy.

can you post a pic of you using it as a pot lift?

The HEST and 5 make a great combo.

I also have an Izula and don't find it competition for my HEST at all - the Izula is my EDC utility knife, the HEST would draw a little too much attention if I pulled it out in public to open a box, etc. - unless you're around like-minded folks where you could pop the cap off a bottle or something.

Congrats on the 5. It was my first ESEE and I am nuts about it - just don't use it much in my everyday life. It's overkill for most tasks, especially back-yard suburbia duty!

Hopefully soon I will be getting my own 5.... Until then I will continue lurking and drooling over the pics of everyone else's.

I have a 5 and Izula, love them both, but will be taking some of the finish off of them so I can use them as a striker for my ferro rod......
