Took delivery of this beast yesterday. Man is it big (heavy)....but I knew that going in. I think I'll like it.

Very cool, always enjoyed ESEE knives, but I have to ask, what is that knife in the second pic between the ESEE 5 and the SOG?

Thanks for posting your pictures. The knife-in-hand shot is quite helpful. The ESEE-5 looks nice in pictures, but in-hand I can see how massively broad it is. Glad I went for the ESEE-4 instead. ;)

Schrade?

Only thing prettier is a used ESEE 5 :D

What is that knife above it in the second picture? Thanks.

I will most likely end up with the ESEE 4 someday but I wanted a big heavy camp knife that can really stand up to a good hard beating. I think the ESEE 5 is it, but we will see after I dirty it up a bit :) .

The knife above it is indeed a Shrade. It's an OldTimer TrailBoss 140oT USA. This knife is not to be confused with the cheap ones made now that come from China. I love this knife! It was my first serious fixed blade purchase about 15 years ago. It has literally been all over the country with me, from Alaska and Oregon to here in PA where I live now. It has seen a fair amount of use and still looks great. Not the biggest, thickest knife in the world but it just seems to work. And the blade shape, forget about it! Just darn good looking. You can still find the USA versions on a few sites and the bay for not much money at all, in fact not much more than they ask for the Chinese version.

ESEE-5 is not a "general purpose" knive. It is a beast for emergency use. If I were in an urban environment, or inside a vehicle, ESEE-5 is it. Pry off a padlock (of course in an urban environment I have a crowbar too but you get me), break a window to get out of a fallen building...etc etc...urban survival type of thing. I love mine.
