So, I got my esse-6 on Sept 3rd, but got crazy busy since it arrived and haven't posted about it yet...until now! First of all, thanks for all the help and info that helped me make the purchase. it was DEF worth waiting to find the right blade...i'm sure i'll acquire more (both esee and otherwise) but this one is sick! the initial impression was excellent...fit and finish were great, tight lines, no blemishes, and SHARP. just sexy overall. the handle...felt great. haven't had any canvas micarta handles, but the linen feels just right. grippy enough, especially once the humidity from your hands moistens it up just a bit...it's nice. it fits my hand great and i'd say i have average to just above average hands...my first knuckle joint (closest to the hand) folds right over the bottom of the handle...nice and secure. the blade and coating were great, sharp and rugged, looks like that coating will take a beating. the sheath = very good. i added on the molle back which i'm really happy with. feels very comfortable on the belt, and is easy to put on/take off with the molle back. had some concerns about the plastic sheath vs kydex based on some other comments i'd come across but for my uses i think the plastic will be more than fine, and i've also noticed that putting the molle back on it made the blade fit even tighter in the sheath...anyone else notice that? also, worst case if the plastic loosens up over time you can buy a replacement for about $20 i think. there are slight rub marks on the handle where it comes in and out of the sheath but very mild and don't seem at all to cause any physical/structural defect on the handle, just a slightly darker area on the surface. haven't done too too much with the blade yet but did make some fuzz sticks, baton a log or two, did some chopping...it worked very well in all these areas. i really like the length with the combination of the choil for finer work and for anyone concerned the choil is big enough to get your index finger in without feeling unsafely close to the blade edge (saw nutnfancy review of the rc-4 where that was a concern of his, not sure if it's the same size choil in the 4 or 6). the knife feels to me smaller in length than i expected which i like b/c it seems very handleable (word? ha) but still very versatile vs a thinner shorter blade. overall, this knife is an excellent purchase and i plan to get a lot of use out of it. i've been cleaning it with warm water after use, drying it, then oiling it with mineral oil and haven't noticed any rust except maybe one very small spot or two on the side(s) of the bare edge if i really examine it closely, but this could be residue from use too, i imagine. still learning about the knife and best way to clean/care for it.

in closing = esee-6 is an excellent purchase and from my limited use thusfar coupled with the overall impression i'd highly recommend it.

can't wait to get my next, which i think will probably be the izula II, the first generation izula, or the hest...little more research and i'll have it figured out.

thanks for all the help and sorry for the quick and dirty review. also, no pics b/c i have about zero memory on this computer to upload...in the market for a new laptop but funds are tight! thanks again!

Glad you like it, my first RAT (pre-ESEE) was an RC-6, love that knife! Enjoy it, get out and beat on it!

Congrats on the buy, the 6 is a great field knife, I have yet to get one though :-( On the other hand, I highly recommend the HEST. Out of my knives (RC4, RC3 MIL and BK2) the HEST is def my favorite. Welcome to the addiction!

Congrats on getting your ESEE 6.:thumbup:

The choil on the 6 is bigger than the 3 and 4...

Thanks all - good to know about the choils being smaller on the 3 and 4 - anyone have problems with it being too small? Seeing an awful lot of love for the hest, maybe more than the izula recently+ decisions decisions! For now the 6 is keeping me happy luckily and I'm sure it always will but I'm sure only a matter of time before I wanna compliment it with a little friend ha. Esee is good stuff!

The 6 is perfect. The sheath won't hurt the handles at all except for some marks, but once you use the knife you will start using it for everything and there will be battle scars all over it. It looks loved that way.

Hey beestokk. Great news!!. I have a 6 as well. (I think I'm one of the others talkin ya into a 6) And they are a fantastic blade. Been beatin on mine, and No damage to coating at all yet. And....this blows me away. I STILL have not needed to put an edge back on the blade yet.!!! It did stop shaving after so much use, but I just took two swipes with my hone steel and its popin hair again. Man I love those things. OK this may sound dumb..? but at times at night ,I just get it out to look at it, the lines, edge, feel of my grip on the handle, I guess I just really like it.:D Its my buddy. (I never was a teddy bear guy anyways) Well have fun with it, and enjoy. edgy

love the love everyone's givin the 6! makes me even more pumped to use it! good to know about the handle holding up with regards to the sheath...not that i had any doubts. any of you have problems with the sheath loosening up over time? and yes, edgy, you helped me make the decision, i really appreciate it! what do you guys sharpen it with? i recently got a dmt aligner to use to restore some really dull knives, but was thinking of a sharpmaker or the worksharp knife and tool sharpener after seeing a post about it tonight...or is the dmt aligner sufficient for this blade and others like it?

DMT covers it from grinding new edge to razor sharpness in quick time. DMT now makes stones that are 8000 grit. This puts a highly polished edge that lasts longer.

Woo! I bought an RC6 a few months ago and love it too! I'm also guilty for taking it out of the sheath just to look at it for awhile, too... "oooohhhh Attah!"
Enjoy, it's a great knife from a great company. My dad just picked one up, and he never buys a knife that I already own. I guess he just doesn't see a purpose in having more than one identical knife in the family, but I guess he really wanted a 6 for himself, hah

Thanks for the post!. I have always thought of the 6 as being the "flagship" of the line.

Thanks for the post!. I have always thought of the 6 as being the "flagship" of the line.

Not sure if this was in response to my original post, or the post just prior to yours, but I hope the former! Reason being: I just saw your reply to another post a few threads up and thought to myself "Wow, that's awesome that the people making/selling the blades respond on this forum" and then literally a minute later I read a response in my own thread. It made me very happy haha. Makin me love ESEE even more!

The 6 seriously is awesome. It is my first, but I'm sure it won't be my last ESEE. Mine's serial number is 1570...the sum of the digits is 13...I like to think of her as my "Lucky 13"...there for everything, especially when luck runs out and SHTF.

Thanks for the reply :-)

Couldn't help but notice that my reply was also the 13th reply in the thread (14th post, but 13th reply)...coincidence...or fate?! Ha...alright, enough from me for now, it's getting late and I'm getting silly.

Congrats on the new 6, it was also my first in the line up and i absolutely love, love, love it. I have already got the Izula, the 3 and 4 and i only started this road a mont or so ago. But its just the beginning of a new love affair:rolleyes:. it might just be the demize of the savings account, oh well.... Good luck with your new blade and welcome to the ESEE virus its incureable disease...lol
