New ESEE Contest? :-)

very cool... but what's up with the bike chains in PLASTIC BAGS when they throw 'em in the pond.just toss the bare chain in! :D

not everyone knows how to remove or install a chain with a chain tool. it's not hard, but it's a good thing to practice. doing it wrong can break the driver pin on the tool.

At one point in my life that would have been fun to do. Sadly I am in the same boat as Mike.

If I hadn't have had back surgery, I'd be all for it. That looks like the most fun you could have beating the hell out of your body!

Congrats to Corps, Royal and US! Semper Fi!

Man that's intense! Great video.
Looks like a ton of fun.
Although carrying a bike frame wouldn't be my thing ;)

Legos?

Ok, I'm in. ;)

LEGO puzzles are becoming popular "direction following/spatial problem solving" practical rests used in the corporate world, too - I've been in many workshops from Agile Software Development to Process/Project Management that have had these sorts of contests...

FWIW - the chain in the bag - there is the potential to have multiple chains in the pond at the same time, their contestant # is on the bag... it also keeps the grease out of the water a bit and the chain from rusting up too badly...

To me, it seems like they borrowed a lot of tricks and exercises from special operations/sniper/scout/recon units... SFAS with bicycles, sort of. :-)

a twist tie and a tag would ID the bare chain... and i've done deep water crossings and ridden my bike thru creeks and ponds... haven't really done much water crossing on the moto, but almost the same thing, and lots of rides in the rain. rust on the chain should not be a major concern, especially if using a waxy lube. just rinse it off with fresh water afterwards and re-lube.

riding thru the pond on the bike would put the same amount of oil in the water... which ain't much.

"grease" is bad for chains because it tends to collect lots of dirt, which grinds away at all the metal.

reminds me of all the "my ESEE is rusting threads. basically a non-issue.

the Legos are cool. nothing like a brain game when you're wet, cold and tired... or just amped up.

I love it. I've been looking for a challenge to train for maybe this'll be it. I think the part I liked the most about it was the mental exercises; puts a much more real life twist on things when having to survive than sheer physical endurance.
