Hey guys!

Not only have I just purchased a RC-6 recently, but this is also my first post! :D

Well, after a long time (~3 weeks :p)of debating between what knife I wanted to get, it was quite tough deciding between the BK2 and the RC6. Ultimately, what sold me, was your guys' awesome warranty, kudos on the lifetime !

I hope this was the right knife for me, because I plain on taking this with me on the longtrail in my near future, and hiking/camping all the time!

Also, I might as well ask my first question while i'm at it ^.^ (I'd edit my original post, but unfortunately cant where I am right now). I'm currently using this sharpener to sharpen my poopstink $5 wally world bladess: http://www.amazon.com/Smiths-PP1-Pocket-Multi-Function-Sharpener/dp/B000O8OTNC , Will this suffice for my new blade, or should I get a better one? (I definitely dont want to ruin my brand new expensive knife :P)

Welcome. I can't comment on the sharpener as I don't have one, but i do have an RC-6 and absolutely love it. You will not be disappointed with it. Also you have to post pics or it didn't happen. It's the law of the interweb!

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on a smart purchase!

As for the sharpener, at home I either use waterstones or sandpaper & strop (depending on the grind). In the field I use a Fallkniven DC4 or a home made 'hoodoo hone', so I'm afraid I can't help you with that gadget.

There's a picture that gets posted in the general forum when people mention carbide pull-through sharpeners that shows the edge gets torn up by them. I've never used one, so YMMV. Either way, for like $5 you can go to a Harbor Freight and pick up a few grits of sandpaper that will get it even sharper than from the factory.

Oh, I know the rules of the intarwebs, believe you me ;). I promise I will post pictures as soon as I get the knife haha, I wish it was here right now though >.<.

Hrm, alright, well thanks for the input! I'll be sure to look into the sandpaper method... Although, I've never heard of anyone sharpening their blade with sandpaper  haha, (I'm still quite a noob when it comes to blades)

Welcome to Bladeforums! You're starting out here with a good knife. I just recommended it to someone else who was asking. :)

Check out these videos - http://www.knivesshipfree.com/pages/Sharpening-Videos
Although they are for convex edges, you can use the same principle on a secondary bevel which will eventually turn it into a convex anyway.

The Spyderco Sharpmaker is also a good idea for maintaining an edge.

Appreciate you being here and thanks for the post. We suggest any decent flat diamond hone for quick field touch-ups on our blades.

We're working on a deal now with EZ Lap to maybe start supplying our own hones.

Welcome & Congrats on the 6 and I use a DMT Sharpener

Wow, thanks guys, I have to say, I love that the manufacturer of these knives comes and talks with everyone here on their forum. Haha, that is quite awesome. I will be sure to invest in a diamond sharpener, does anyone have any suggestions? (Preferably transportable)

Edit: Haha, I guess EZ-lap is the way to go?

Check out DMT and EZ Lap. They make small portable stones.

One more quick question, I still havent gotten my 6 yet in the mail :(. Forgive my lack of judgment when it comes to length... but, will I be able to carry around this knife without looking like rambo... on steroids???(Also...if someone on steriods, takes more steroids... do they become super powered?)

I dont have an ESEE yet. But a stone I really really like is Fallkniven DC3. Its diamond on one side ceramic on the other.

If you're planning on carrying it around town then it may be a bit too much. I'd recommend an izula, hest or rc3 if you're looking to carry one in an urban environment.
