I was looking at one of these two choices. I already own a plan large Sebenza, and was looking for a smaller knife with some real flash. I love my benza but I would like a custom to. Help me out here, should I get a small unique Sebenza, or go with the Elishewitz?

If you have checked out the internet dealers, you will see that Elishewitz has some really great new designs. I think Sebenzas are great but personally, I like diversity in my collection. Get an Elishewitz now, Sebenzas will be around and you can get one later.

I would definately go with Elishewitz. Surprising to me that so far more people are going for the Sebbie.

Of the two, which company would you say puts more quality in thier knife. Thanx again.

I own a large and a small Sebenza and carry the small every day.
I've played with several of Allen's knives at knife shows.
Allen is a very nice gentleman, and his knives are meticulously finished. But they don't open and close or lock up as nicely as the Sebenza. Every Sebenza I've ever used felt exactly the same, including the Umfaan. Allen's knives all feel different, some way too loose, some tough and sluggish feeling.
If you're gonna use the knife, Sebenza all the way.
If you just want to look at it and show it off, Elishewitz.

Unless you are a big guy, with big hands, or you are constantly using a knife for moderate to big jobs on a daily basis, you will probably want to carry a smaller knife as an EDC. By smaller, I mean 3" or less. If that is the case, the small sebbie can't be beat.

I have owned a number of Allens knives. All have been well made respectable pieces. But, I continue to carry my small unique.

If you decide to go with the Unique, take your time and decide what design you want, or contact CRK and they will work with you.

I am telling you, these folders are rock solid !!!!

They are good for life in my opinion.

I like variety, if you already have a Sebenza, and want a custom go for it. I haven't handled an Elishewitz knife, so I couldn't comment on quality, but I have heard he makes a very nice knife. Good luck.

P.S. Buy both and you can't loose! You can choose which one you like best, and sell the other one.

For pure aesthetic value, Elishewitz knives are difficult to beat.

Both these knives would make an excellent choice. I owned an Elishewitz knife and it was great. Beautiful fit and finish and the action was as smooth as silk. If I had my druthers I would rather have S30V than 154CM and that is a point in the Sebenza's favor, unless Allen is using S30V now.

Allen's knives are beautiful, but I don't think they lend themselves to really hard use the way the Sebs seem to do. I'm not saying Allen's knives wouldn't hold up to hard use, they just don't look like it compared to a Sebenza. So if you are looking for elegance and flash, get the Elishewitz. If you're going to use it to do more than cut string, boxes, and envelopes, get the Seb.

Know what ? Either way ~ can't lose with a small Sebbie or Custom folder !

But, since you're askin'. . . Let's see. . .

You already have a "large plain Sebbie." So that satisifies your high-end production desire !

To complete your lustin'. . .I'd definitely go with the AE ! Fills your "custom" desire(s) !

Tell ya what. . .Buy the small Sebbie and a AE ~ send them both to me. . .and I'll let you know which one is the best. ;)

Allen is a one man shop. I suspect that he has a lot of "outside help" with his knives. I think that he orders a lot of the parts. I bought a stryker and for the money I wasn't very impressed. I asked him to make me a left hand frame lock but he said his supplier didn't have left hand frames. Recently he said that he is moving more of his production "in house". Where was it before? If you really want something different go Elishewitz. If you want a high quality hardworking folder go with CRK. Have you seen Lisa's picks? They are stunning. This is just my opinion based on my experience with Allen. It is not an attempt to slander.

.......pretty much said it all. The lockup on the Sebbie is the same time after time, knife after knife. I like that about the Sebenza. I own three Sebbies, all large, and all inlaid; 2 with wood, a Classic and a 2001 Regular, and a Classic with leather, and each one of them has the same feel when you open and close them, and the lock up is very, very close to the same spot on the blade tangs for all three. That is some meticulous(sp) fitting! The 2 Elishewitz's knives I've had were nice and were flashy, but did not have the same level of fit as my Sebbies have.

The new Classics in wood and leather are looking at also.

I do not find the graphic Sebenza's to be appealing - they are just dressed-up grey turds.

The grey turds are just fine as they are and more appealing from my design point of view.

On the other hand, the new wood and leather inlay models are quite appealing and I would seriously consider those for a high-end Sebenza.

With the Sebenza, you get essentially one blade shape choice, period.

With Alan's knives, you get many choices - although the new models all look rather similar to me.

If you like wharncliff or near wharcliffe blades you really have no decision to make because CRK doesn't have that option.

If you really want a nice little folder, I think that Tom Mayo could fix you up just right. His smalls are $450 and very nice.
