I just got the new Fallkniven NL-5 and it's the sharpest knife I've ever handled. It's sharper than my Sere 2000.

I also have their S-1 which has a bit thicker edge that this NL-5.

The knife has a 4" laminated VG-10 blade with stacked leather handle. It' feels comfortable in the hand and the weight also feels very good...not to heavy and not to light.

Hopefully I'm lucky this hunting season and get to use it on a deer.

The knife is pretty nice but the sheath looks cheap. It's sturdy but doesn't match the quality of the knife!

I expect the knife to perform as good if not bettter than my S-1 but I'll write a review after I use it.

Cheers,

I have been wanting to get one of these for a while... They look like beautiful knives. But since they're Fallknivens, you know they'll earn their keep too!

Let me know how it works for you, and good luck this deer season.:D

I've wondered about that one . It has a straight handle as I prefer. Looks like a very practical knife. Since the put on a stainless steel bolster they should have put on a stainless butt cap instead of aluminum. My test for a hunting knife is to do the whole deer .dressing out ,skinning, complete butchering just with that knife , without sharpening in between. Give us a report.

I agree that they should have used a stainless steel pommel. Most other brands also use the aluminum...Randall, BlackJack, Buck, etc.

A long time ago I tried to destroy the handle on a Buck Special and that aluminum pommel just wouldn't come off. I had to cut the tang.

I would prefer all stainless but the aluminum works fine.

I'm going to have to make a nicer sheath for this thing...the one that comes with it is getting uglier ever time I look at it!

True, but not usually the case with Fallkniven. I have most of the rubber handled ones, and the leather sheaths are all really nice. To bad the blew it on this one. It looks like a beauty, and I will probably get one.

What about the laminated steel used for the new Fallkniven knives? I think there have been some complaints about it, and statements that it is inferior to the solid VG-10 formerly used by Fallkniven.

I've only read that people "think" it's not as good as the solid VG-10 but I've not heard of any failures. I've also read that the laminated VG-10 is stronger and can take more abuse.

It costs more!

I've had my NL-5 for about a week know. I've not used it for any real cutting but so far it feels very comfortable. The balance and weight are near perfect. I think this configuration is what makes it feel good.

There are symilar knives by other brands that I'm guessing would feel good as well. Blackjack's Trail Guide II with stacked leather handle comes too mind and it costs about $75.00 less.

I like stacked leather over most other handle materials. It seems to have just the right grippy quality even when it's wet. It also makes the knife light compared to other materials such as micrata.

I share your appreciation for the traditional style and handle materials. I also prefer the separate metal guards on traditional knives.
