I am so pumped about this.

I have done quite a bit of canoeing and canoe tripping in the past. Like anyone into it, I have had various boats over the years. Since having kids, my only canoe is a fishing one (Radisson).

However, since I am all done having kids :) I wanted to get back into the canoe tripping. We have taking my fishing canoe out a bit, but it is not the same.

I have been watching canoes for a while and decided that I would go with a Royalex boat. I would love to have a kevlar, or other high tech materials to make it light weight. But, I know we will beating up these boats (one more will be purchased before spring), and the kids will be learning in them. So, I cringed at the thought of beating up such expensive boats.

After looking at various ones, I decided that the Bell Alaskan was one of the top on my list. I was calling around and I found a dealer that had a "demo" one. Meaning that it had been down the river about twice, and was hundreds less!!! Couldn't pass that up.

Here is the Alaskan.

No pictures of my own yet, but maybe soon.

My oldest son and middle daughter demo rode the canoe to make sure we liked it. We bought and my son and I took it out yesterday for an easy 4 mile cruise. The canoe was awesome, and I can't wait to get it out on a trip.

No real point to my post, other than I got this new toy, and was super excited about it. Wanted to share.

Congrats Brian. Its a bit on the heavy side, but then again, nothing like having a canoe that you can load up to the gunwales and still feel comfy in it. I'm sure you'll put that one to great use. I've always had my eye on kevlar ones too after lugging around my 76 lb coleman through much of my adolescence, but the again, I've never been actually been able to swallow a $3000 pill so as a result I'm still in the boatless department.

Good for you guys... have fun!!! Hey brian, i didnt get a chance to thank you for the two bushcrafters i bought recently...so THANKS...i am going to be putting them to the test shortly!

I'm excited for you. Sounds like a couple of big adventures in your future. Looking forward to the pics. Have fun:)

Congrats, Brian. You just purchased one of the best there is! That Alaskan is one heck of an SUV-type all-purpose canoe.

I have a Bell Northwind ("Black Gold" - carbon/Kevlar) and a Bell Magic ("White Gold" - fiberglass/Kevlar/polyester). They are the finest canoes I have ever paddled.

I hope you enjoy your Bell canoe as much as I enjoy mine.

Good paddling,

Sweet!! I can't wait to see the pics you will post when you take it out. I'm jealous.
