Picked up a 101 fixed blade hunter over the weekend. I've been eyeing them since they came out, and since I haven't really found anything I like better than a 110 for all-around use, been wanting to give one a try. I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but fit, finish and feel, I really like it. Not sure how good of a seller these are since the store I picked it up at still has several of the first production numbered runs and it dates 2016 and it was on sale. Think I'm going to pick up a few of these for collecting, since it seems like when I like something, I usually lose mine and then it becomes discontinued.

I think it's a great knife and very underrated. It's everything you like about a 110 but easier to clean. I use it in the kitchen mostly and it works great! Mine was the original Clip Point with 420HC, but now there are Drop Points and 5160 steel too.

Here is mine in the middle

Those are all some good looking knives! I'm going to try to pick up one of each version and pick my favorite for a go to hunting knife. I too wish they were a little more in line with the 110 price wise. They do seem to go on sale alot, but when they do they sell out quick at the reduced cost.
Only one thing I don't really like about mine and it's not really a big deal but the Buck 101 and year are all lazer etched. I didn't notice it at the time, but I bought an Ebony one, and couldn't decide between the Ebony and the Walnut. When I left the store, my son said, " I liked the one you picked because of the way the Buck wasn't engraved. He said the Walnut version was engraved, not etched. I didn't even notice when looking them over and would have preferred the engraved, while my son preferred the etched. So it doesn't matter, just not used to seeing a Buck etched.
Another thing, not sure if all are this way. Mine is a numbered 1st version run and was from 11-2016. The Macasar Ebony appears to be the real stuff, and not the laminate. I might be wrong, but no waxy appearance.

Have the drop point in 420HC and rosewood handles. Only thing I don't like is I only have one. It's my main kitchen knife.

Glad you can pick a favorite. My favorite changes...about hourly.

Just ordered a clip point 101 in oak and 5160 to match the oak and 5160 clip point 110 that I got last week. I'm good for a day or two.

I think...

Hey guys, I have a question, are your tang stamps engraved or etched? I have seen some 101's on some websites that look engraved, but mine are etched.
I picked up another one, a walnut, to use as a user since my first one was numbered I figured I would put the numbered one away.
Like Buckshack's above, my walnut doesn't have a date code? My Ebony 101 is the same year(2016) and is marked as such, but my Walnut has a 2016 box and just says Buck, the anvil with a B and under that USA. Just curious as to why there is no date code on some of these? Mine were both bought at the same place, a legit Buck distributor, but had I bought it on the net, I would have thought a possible fake without the date code.

Stamped on mine. I have seen some "not standard" that are etched. What kind of deal are we talking? I wouldn't mind another one or two

They usually sell for around 75, but seems like they tend to go on sale for around $59 and at that price, they tend to sell quicker. Mods, I hope this doesn't violate the price spotting violation, since I'm not naming a specific seller, just in general and not a specific seller, they seem to go on sale for around $15 less than normal at most knife dealers from time to time if one looks. Sorry in advance if I violated the rule, and feel free to delete this if so.

Imafritz, I like the engraved tang better, like yours has. Your's doesn't have a date code either? Or is the Anvil B part of the date code?

Anvil was date code for US produced 2002 knives in celebration of 110 years. Was used prior to 2002 and continues as custom shop stamp and possibly some limited editions(not certain about that). Mine came from Copper and Clad and I'm guessing its considered custom shop at this time.
