Ganga Ram Special

Just used it to cut up some dead wood that had fallen in the last storm. Maple that has been drying out in the grass for the last couple of weeks. Best chopper I have!

Good for you.

Chopping is good. Carry water, chop wood. Buddhists know these things.

(2nd from the left - nice grab!)

Gotta love that BGRS.....it is truly a great chopper!

Oh- the one with the great handle. That's not quite the steal of the year, but it's in the group of very special finds offered amongst a year of very special finds.

Lovely.

I'll second that!

I was waiting for a 22" GRS to pop up, until the YCS order ... I'll get one eventually. Until then my 25" Siru will have to do :)
It's amazing. I started working out in April- I've always been a "big galoot" type of guy who always got recruited to help people move, never felt the need to lift weights until my 30s- but forearm, gripper, and shoulder exercises have made my swords and big khuks feel "light" in my hands. HI weapons are well-balanced, but my unwieldy Cold Steel "Grosse Messer" now feels like a broadsword should.
It makes me want to snag a 25" AK!

Josh,

A little later in the groups chronology is another post from me about this Kuhk.

Here

According to Yvsa they had buttcaps made in the same way in the past. So far I like it. I have a longer Sirupti villager whose handle ends in what feels like a pommel, that one is uncomfortable. This one isn't so far. I also like the checkering in the front portion of the grip. Very secure feeling,

I've seen some of the older brass ones from Shop 1, which are usually tooled if I'm not mistaken. So, is the buttcap on your GRS solid, or can you tell? Looks great either way.

Great snag, 45 70:)

I've never handled a 17-18" BGRS, but i took Uncle Bill up on his 25% deal and got a 22" GRS. Now THAT'S a chopper! Bura made, potbellied, curvy and sexy, its only the second khuk that i've got that will sing when you take it down a butcher's steel. Very magical and it makes my 15 and 18"ers feel like feathers in the hand. Now i can't wait for that YCS to arrive:)

I said they were made the same way, not that they were made like this one. The old ones were thinner, or not as far down the handle.
Josh is right. The old ones were scrolled. They were quite pretty but a royal pain in the ass!!!! I hated the damned things and was really happy when Bill got them to go to the butt cap we have now.:)

Munk,

Just curious, what was the steal of the year to date?

I'll get the micrometer out and check the thickness of the cap tomorrow, I dislike guessing on things like that, I always screw them 'em up.

Doesn't matter whether you use a mic or not. The material is at the least 1/32" thick and no more than 3/32 inch. It's soldered together to make it look like a solid butt cap.

Yvsa's right about the cap; it has the look but not the substance. Still darn fine.

I don't recall the "Steal of the Year". You know, that would make a great thread. Does anyone else feel as I that this year has been the most outstanding in recent years of offerings? How many times have we read posts from folks saying the same- that they can't believe how good the sales have been, how unique the items?

We should make an official thread and vote for the best 5 of the year. What a collection you'd have if you'd grabbed the top 20 in the year 2004. And we still have months to go.

Yes ,I can tell that it is soldered togeather, looks like a cap on a collar.

Hmmm a poll you suggest. If it is done here only paying members can vote. Think I'll take a look at polling software, surely there is an applet or something out there.

WE could ask Rusty to go through the sale threads and pick 20 or 30 khuks and post pics.......maybe that's too hard, I dont know. Maybe Dan could help, he's good with computers and has natural weight around here even without official title. Don't know. There must be a way to offer for a quick look the top contenders and have us vote.

This year has been exceptional
