Well, I have managed to stay away for quite a few months. But I just ran across a camp knife at usa made blade. Couldn't resist, been after one of those for a long time. natural micarta 3/16 with a tapered tang. I had reservations about the tapered tang on a harder use blade like the camp, but i doubt andy would make them like that if he had any worries. I'm thinking this will be a great fire prep blade for overnight hikes. stored in the pack, with a 4 isn length blade on the hip. I think the best looking ones Ive seen are Wills burlap camp and Thurins. I haven't seen any pictures lately of Mistwalkers, You still have that black one with the full grind? That was the one that originally got me wanting one.

Nice grab! I've been eyeballin' that one since it went up, trying to figure out away to get it and stay married lol. Thank you!

Thanks for the order. It is boxed up and will head out on Tuesday since the post office is closed on Monday. I threw a little something extra in the box for you! Congrats on getting an awesome Camp knife. Hope you use the heck out of it!

Yeah, I wouldn't sweat it man. This one is tapered 3/16, with a full flat grind. I threw it into the fray in the bushcraft knife challenge at Ethan Becker's house, after they had damaged four knives in a row and were starting to question if they were taking the knives out of the realm of reasonable expectation when chopping on some 3 and 4 -inch diameter bamboo. Four other people and Ethan put the knife through the paces, cutting through cells, joints, some hard wood, etc. and the knife was just fine afterwards. That tapered 3/16 should do fine for you.

That one looks very nice. I kept checking back on the usamade blade site just to look at it. Something special about that one. Nice score!

Man that camp looks awesome, the awesome photography with the patina doesnt hurt either:thumbup:. I didn't realize that yours was tapered too.

That's a great looking Camp. That taper is amazing. I don't think you'll have any issues at all. Congrats!

Yep, you should have seen the look on my friend Andrew's face when I handed it to him at that challenge. He had just chipped the hell out of a knife by a well know maker, and was hesitant to even take the camp knife from me because I hadn't had it very long. I told him it wasn't the first Fiddleback I had had, it wasn't the first one I had worked with bamboo with, it'll be fine I'm sure. And I was right. Heck, after everyone finished checking it out and went back to the challenge, Ethan disappeared with the Camp knife for an hour or so :) I think it had one or two slight flat spots on the edge that worked out in a few seconds. You're should serve you well man.

Damn good lookin photos there Mistwalker!

Thanks man, I happen to really enjoy shooting the Fiddleback subjects, Andy and crew make nice photos pretty easy to do :)

I concur, I think it will be just fine.

Nice score. I also looked at it about 50 times but didn't pull the trigger. I did get the blackwood Recluse though. Have fun with it...

Thanks folks, really looking forward to getting it in the woods and doing some fire prep, I'll try to get some pics

Well, unfortunately I haven't had time to do anything but work on the house, I have 4 rooms torn apart right now. I think the wife would have a full on meltdown if I went hiking right now. Haven't uploaded any pics yet either.
However I do have some first impressions. First thing is that all the pictures of camp knives Ive seen make them look really big. It doesn't seem all that big to me in hand. I know every one says this about every blade- I really think this could be a good one tool option. This and a sak could do everything I need to do in the woods. (I would still have another small fixed blade though) Handle is perfection for me, I wear a large sized glove and it is hand filling and ergonomic.
I haven't been regularly active on the forums lately so I didn't know about the bead blasted handles. I was surprised when it didn't have the usual high polish finish, but not disappointed . The bead blasted natural micarta with thick black liners and white pinstripes on the tapered tang is really appealing to me. The blasted handles really do give much more grip. The blade is deeply spalted with a half height grind- love it.

I tried stopping by a tandy on the way home from work tonight for some leather, but they were already closed. Hopefully later in the week I can get started on a sheath.

I will get some action shots eventually, might be a couple weeks though
