Hello all, I am Shaun and from the San Francisco Bay Area. I have been lurking the Fiddleback Forge forums for a few years, but only recently became a member. It was the beautiful knives, great reviews and pictures, and the very friendly community that finally convinced me to make a forum membership and to also purchase my first Fiddleback.
I purchased my first Fiddleback this week from KSF and am eagerly awaiting! It was a EDC II in green linen with some beautiful mosaic pins. It looks like it comes with a pocket sheath, but I will be looking for a belt sheath very soon.
I am a computer support specialist... although I get a lot of network building, security camera, alarm work, and access automation work also. I spend a large portion of my week on ladders, pulling wire through ceilings and tight spaces and come home generally dirty and exhausted. I wanted a beautiful Fiddleback to support me in the field. I honestly don't use a blade that often during the work day, but I like having one on my belt regardless.
In San Francisco and Oakland, where I work quite a bit, you are not allowed to carry a fixed blade larger than 3", and it has to be visible... so this EDC II came in just under 3", making it legal for me to carry here. I meet up with police often to help them search and pull video from my company's security DVR's so I wanted something that if they noticed would be perfectly legal.
I also wanted it for the backpacking and thru-hiking I like to do. I keep it fairly lightweight and minimalist when I backpack and camp... so this is more knife than I am use to carrying to be honest. I usually carry a little cheap folder. But after watching all the great posts about the wonderful bushcrafting and firemaking and such... I think its time for me to graduate to a larger, fixed blade. I will see how the EDC II does in this aspect, but am considering something a bit bigger for that duty.
I hope it's ok I posted here in this capacity... and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their enthusiastic support of this forum. Your love of Fiddleback has grabbed hold of me in a large way!
Sincerely,
Shaun
