Hello all, I am Shaun and from the San Francisco Bay Area. I have been lurking the Fiddleback Forge forums for a few years, but only recently became a member. It was the beautiful knives, great reviews and pictures, and the very friendly community that finally convinced me to make a forum membership and to also purchase my first Fiddleback.

I purchased my first Fiddleback this week from KSF and am eagerly awaiting! It was a EDC II in green linen with some beautiful mosaic pins. It looks like it comes with a pocket sheath, but I will be looking for a belt sheath very soon.

I am a computer support specialist... although I get a lot of network building, security camera, alarm work, and access automation work also. I spend a large portion of my week on ladders, pulling wire through ceilings and tight spaces and come home generally dirty and exhausted. I wanted a beautiful Fiddleback to support me in the field. I honestly don't use a blade that often during the work day, but I like having one on my belt regardless.

In San Francisco and Oakland, where I work quite a bit, you are not allowed to carry a fixed blade larger than 3", and it has to be visible... so this EDC II came in just under 3", making it legal for me to carry here. I meet up with police often to help them search and pull video from my company's security DVR's so I wanted something that if they noticed would be perfectly legal.

I also wanted it for the backpacking and thru-hiking I like to do. I keep it fairly lightweight and minimalist when I backpack and camp... so this is more knife than I am use to carrying to be honest. I usually carry a little cheap folder. But after watching all the great posts about the wonderful bushcrafting and firemaking and such... I think its time for me to graduate to a larger, fixed blade. I will see how the EDC II does in this aspect, but am considering something a bit bigger for that duty.

I hope it's ok I posted here in this capacity... and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their enthusiastic support of this forum. Your love of Fiddleback has grabbed hold of me in a large way!

Sincerely,
Shaun

Welcome! Looks like you put plenty of thought and research into your choice. Congrats on the purchase. Post up pics when you get it

Pics will definitely be following the delivery later this week! I do already want to buy more... I have been watching the Fiddleback Friday's for so long... time for me to stop watching the sharks and to start swimming.

This forum does have a magnetic pull! Good people, amazing knives, and a stand up company! Welcome!

Thanks for posting your story Shaun. As a fellow CA resident, I am well aware of our wacky laws regarding knives. Your logic in choosing the EDC II is sound for your tasks. I look forward to seeing the pictures and hearing your thoughts about it after you have used it some.

Phil

Welcome Shaun, and great post. You're just going to have to update it now with your experiences. [emoji6] [emoji106]

Shaun,
Welcome and congrats on the new EDC II. I'm sure that blade will serve you well. Glad you decided to join up.

Welcome to the forum Shaun, and congratulations on the EDC-II, I have handled them a few times trying to decide whether I want it of the clipped Lone Star version. It's a very handy size for edc carry.

I can't express how good it has felt to carry this around the last week. I have only used it to open and break down some boxes and for a few meals. I have been carrying it around in the KSF sheath pictured all week. Today, however, I received a HJE Hiking Buddy belt sheath from Wildmanh and look forward to carrying it like that for a while. I am also looking for a IPC sheath down the road.

I will get some better photos up over the weekend.

:thumbup:very nice! I like the olive drab micarta. Herber and Bud both have some nice ISP sheaths.

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone!

As many of you predicted... I am now owner of three Fiddlebacks. I bottom fed the one pictured from KSF. I also bottom fed a beautiful Lonestar EDC from the Flea Market that I will post some pictures of. And I swam with the sharks last Friday and got a beautiful Pocket Kephart that I am very excited about. The Lonestar EDC was gifted to the wife. So I have a small... medium... and now need a 4" to 5" blade. Going to have to wait a month or two and let the wallet breath a bit. Digging the Big Sneaky's but will probably pull the trigger on whatever large blade comes up!

I don't want to keep dragging this post to the top... so this will be my last few pictures of my first Fiddleback... on this thread. Instead, I will start posting them up to the many great threads you guys have already started.

Great scores and nice pics
It's not bottom feeding.... More like being resourceful

Thanks, Vance!

I was just following along the swimming with the sharks theme... my off beat sense of humor. I definitely don't think anything negative of purchasing from Flea Market or Dealers. I am grateful they exist!

Nice scores. I am looking at getting a Lone Star edc when the right handle config comes up...and I have the money at the same time. I love the handle material on the EDC II you have. Though I personally haven't had a lot of time for it lately, as a general rule we just like to talk, and it really doesn't matter which thread if the conversation is interesting :)

Nice grabs on your First 3 Fiddlebacks. Love the fact you are throwing up pics! Pics make threads more fun!
