I bought a 119 at Wal-Mart, not because I needed it, but because it is inexpensive, and it seems to be a Buck standard any fan of the brand should have. It's an excellent knife. The handle is large enough for my long fingers, yet the knife is really light for its obvious strength. I'm very impressed.

The sheath, though, doesn't measure up. The hard plastic thing in it rattles. And how on earth do you snap it closed while the sheath is on your belt? The snap is basically in the tunnel the belt goes through, and it seems impossible to reach when it is on your belt. Am I missing some obvious trick to stowing the knife while wearing the sheath?

I miss the flap-over sheath from my 80's vintage 102.

I like the flap overs as well. I don't care for the newer sheaths. Look on some of the auction sites and you can find an older sheath for a fair price.

The new style leather sheath rattles like crazy also and the snap is in the same position as it is on the nylon sheath. The only one of these three that dosen't rattle like crazy is the older style on the left and of course the flap over one. You could possibly find one like in the picture or a flap over on the auction sites.

These are also an option for you. The two on the left are customs, available most of the time on the auction site and the Buck Custom one shows up there on occasion also. They are all a tight fit with no rattling and the snaps are a "snap" to get to.

Actually, I just dug out a 119 in an old flap over sheath and it rattles just as much as the new ones.

Here's a couple more options. The first was bought on the auction site.

These two (119 on the right) were made for me by a forum member, Jack Rudder. No snaps to worry about with this style and they fit tight.
