Well, I think I finally settled on a pattern for fixed blades that I like ( took a while to get it down how I wanted ). This is the prototype prototype, in other words first one; will be some changes, but its basically there. The radius in the front of the handle ( not the choil ) will be a bit tighter, and the choil area will be smaller. I'll use a heavier tubing for the handles, and there will be serrations on the thumb ramp which will be ground in after heat treat so there is no risk of stress risers forming. I'm planning on having sheaths made for me, out of Kydex or Concealex ( whichever is better and more durable). These will be intended as survival/combat knives. Ok, now for some specs
, The blade will be 1/4" thick, on the 6, 7, and 8 inch model ; 3/16 on the 5 inch unless specified. Full flat ground, with a radiused plunge for strength. Blade width is 1.5 inches at narrowest point ( edge part, not choil ) and about 1 5/8 inch at widest point. Knife pictured has 8 inch blade from start of plunge to tip. handle is contoured to provide good grips in all normal uses. Handle length is 5 inches from point of guard to butt.
Plan on using ATS34 and/or 154CM for steel, Paul Bos heat treat as per usual. If y'all having any suggestions for a better steel for this purpose, feel free to let me know. Hmmmm... think thats it, let me know what you think, thanks -- Charles
Edited to add: sorry 'bout the pic quality, I'll get a better one up tommorow
