New Fixed blade?

Okay I decided on a Umnumzaan for my new folder, but now I am craving a new fixed blade. I don't have any models picked out yet and was hoping that is where you can help me. I already have a MercWorx Sniper and a Extrema Ratio Col Moschin, but now I want something smaller and easy to carry.
Here is what I want out of the knife,
1. It has to be easy to carry
2. It has to be kinda light
3. It has to be able to take one hell of a beating
4. It has to be under $400
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

What blade length?

Busse makes some very nice blades and you should be able to find them in just about every length you want. RAT Cutlery also has some good products.

I just ordered the RC-5 for $125.00. I plan to use it heavy duty as I spend a lot of time in the South San Juan wilderness Area. Nothing wrong with my BRKT Fox River but I had a hankering for something new and I have heard good things about RAT.

Those knives don't really jump out at me, I actually think they are ugly. I was looking at a Spartan Blades Horkos and like it alot, but it is a little longer than what I wanted. Are these knives any good?

This is a little outside your size requirement, but I carry this every day:

Busse Satin Jack Tac, Comp Finish, convex edge, kydex iwb sheath

You can get any number of GREAT knives for less than $400.

Are these still made? Every time I go to busse's website it only show a few knives, do they make more than what is on there?

They aren't making them right now... you'd have to find one on the secondary market. That said, there's always decent blades available for less than $400. You might want to look in the Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrapyard Knives For Sale forum. There's a lot available in your price and size range. If nothing else, it makes for nice window shopping!

I linked to the forum, but someone else already did.

A SAR 4 or SAR 5, Meaner Street, High Street, or a few others might be just the ticket. And I've seen them all for less than $400.

You can get a wonderful little pair of bush knives from Blind Horse Knives. The Bushcrafter and Bushbaby can be purchased and shipped for around 225.00!

I REALLY like the Bushbaby. Quite small, and immensely useful. It looks the same in pictures as the Bushcrafter, just a different scale.

RAT Izula, slightly shorter than your length requirements, but you can buy about 8 of them for those $400 and it carries like a dream in your pocket. If you lose it, take a new one of the other 7 =P

No they normally only make one model at a time. You really can't go wrong with one. Some of the toughest knives out there, infamous INFI steel, no questions asked warranty, and they easily hold their purchase value. Actually it isn't uncommon for them to increase with value over time.

As for the Spartan Nyx, it seems like a well made knife. S30V isn't what I would prefer on a fixed of that size tho. Also I don't see that large recurve being practical, but others experience may differ.

2.8oz with the sheath. buy one in each color and save the extra $ for your next itch.
