New flashlight - the DEFT FTP!

I've developed a bit of a thing for serious throwing flashlights lately - not that I "need" them in any particular sense, but I just love the ability to be out in a field and light up a tree an ungodly distance away. Since I prefer LED and am not a fan of the mega HID type lights, I decided it was time to obtain the pinnacle of LED throwers... the DEFT FTP, by OMG LUMENS!

The DEFT is an aspheric lens light, which uses four AA batteries, and massively focuses its beam. It is claimed to be the longest-throwing LED flashlight in the world, and I believe that claim just might be true....

I got a chance to try the light out while walking the dogs past one of Denver's "open spaces", where you've got a lot of room to light up distant objects. Even in a snow storm, the throw was simply mind blowing. OMG LUMENS! is about the correct description of the reaction I had when I fired that bad boy up.

DEFT on the left, and my more practical semi-pocketable thrower, the MG RX-1, on the right. And a Busse Combat Mojo thrown in for good measure. The MG RX-1 is a 2xCR123A, and a very fine light in its own right - probably a bit more practical, with multiple brightness modes and a smaller form factor. But holy crap is the DEFT awesome!! :D :D :D :D

I have no use right now for crazy bright lights but love to hear about them. Thanks for sharing. Got any pictures of how far the light will go? If you do or can take some, I'd love to see them. ;)

I like flashlights, and I really like good throwers. Do you know how far it will throw?

Yeah the DEFT is insane. I don't want to buy one since I'd rarely use it, but I really want to check one out in person.

I just moved, so it will be a while before I have enough free time to get out somewhere genuinely dark to take pictures or test the true throw.

I do know that it visibly, albeit dimly, illuminated the side of a building over 500 feet away, in a light snowstorm, and that was with my night vision screwed up by ambient light
