Hey everyone-I've narrowed it down to 2 choices-
Streamlight Scorpion
Inova X5MT

I've noticed that the Scorpion seems to be very popular on here. Haven't heard much about the Inova.
Thanks!
J

The Inova X5T is my main flashlight. I use it around the house and to get into my deer stand. It doesn't have the throw of a searchlight but is great for the vast majority of my light uses.

I carry a Scorpion at work. Great light, the rubber coating makes for a good grip and adds some protection if you drop it. The head twists for spot or a straight beam. Batteries can be had at Wal Mart, and best off all this light is cheap! I don't know about the Inova, but the seem to be popular and good lights as well.

I have both and would carry both, but only have room for one. (plus, the scorpion won't fit in my Nite-eyez foldingtool/flashlight sheath.)

So I carry the X5T all the time. Great light, decent color. I have to make sure that I unscrew the top enough that it won't come on in my sheath (went through about 4 sets of batteries before I figured that out.)

But... If I could, I'd carry the Scorpion. Much better throw, much brighter. Will eat batteries faster. It's what i grab to check out what the dog's barking at after dark (or the 6 D cell maglight...).

Get both. They're both great lights!
(lotta help I am! )

I find the Inova X5T is so good at regulating the power from its batteries that it can get about ten hours service from batteries depleted by my Surefire E2. The Inova is also pretty much indestructible.

While these LED lights aren't as bright as bulbs, sometimes that's a good thing. In a truck cab, you don't want that great flood of glaring light. The Inova is more than enough.

I think that's one of the best things about the Inova. My Surefires eat up my 123's but it just creates this endless supply of batts for my Inova. Plus it's waterproof and pretty impact resistant and using LEDs you'll never have to change the bulb. On the other hand, it is more of a flood, so if you're looking for throw you probably want to go a different route. I don't know enough about the Scorpion to comment on it.

Jason,

Have both of them and you should get both too ......

The Scorpian sits in my MIL-TECH Belt-Carrier with velcro fasterner ... you can practically skydive and surf with thtis setup and the light will stay on your belt ........ great throw, price, good spare bulbs, touch/clickie switch on the back but the spot to flood front bezel is poor though ....

The INOVA X5 is great for closeup use, great flood white light and practically indestructable ....... save in batteries also ......

my idea and advise ...... get both for different situation ..... carry both on you so that you have a main spot light (Scorpian) and a reliable backup (INOVA X5) .......
