New Folder for EDC Sebenza?

Ok Since I got so much help last time when looking for a new knife I am going to give it a shot again. The last knife I picked up was a Hogue EX01 with the 4" blade and that has been my EDC now I am looking for something different. I am really thinking about getting a large Sebenza 21 but want to see if there is anything else I should consider in the 400.00 price range. I want something that has maybe a frame lock, and that is somewhat thin for EDC.
Thanks!
Dan

If you are thinking about the Sebenza you should also check out the Umnumzaan too. Little thicker than the Sebenza and twice as good looking IMHO.

Yeah, but "a little thicker" is a lot more in the pocket. I left my calipers and Umnumzaan at home, but I'll measure the two next to each other when I get home later. If you are going for thin, it's hard to beat a Sebenza for how much blade you get, and how solid of lockup and feel it has.

And, not to be contentious :) but I think the Sebenza looks twice as good as the Umnumzaan--I think the Umnumzaan is ugly as sin.

My two suggestions for the OP in that price segment:
- Google for the relatively rare Sebenza Insingo variant, perhaps the blade style is to your taste (I bought one instead of a "normal" sebenza), they are currently (I believe) only sold by KnifeArt, the dealer who designed this variant.
- Check out Klötzli. Swiss high tech precision, in fact at least as precise as CRK, and featuring a somewhat more chic finish. They do have a (perfectly adjusted) liner lock though, not a frame lock. I think they are perfect for EDC.

Thanks for the replies!! I think I like the Umnumzaan as well I never really looked at it until it was mentioned above

Good thing the "looks" of the knife aren't what does the actual cutting ;) ;)

Alright, I've got my calipers and Umnumzaan now.

-Umnumzaan
Thickest section (excluding the clip) is across the pivot: 14.44 mm
Along the general body: 11.82 mm
Closed height (Measured from tallest portion while closed): 29.98 mm
Thickest (including clip): 16.2 mm
Blade thickness: 3.52 mm

-Sebenza
Thickest section (excluding the clip) is across the pivot: 12.6 mm
Along the general body: 11 mm
Closed height (Measured from tallest portion while closed): 29.94 mm
Thickest (including clip): 15.2 mm
Blade thickness: 3.08 mm

Revdevil, I measure the Sebenza's blade thickness at roughly 87.5% that of the Umnumzaan's. All things being equal (which is a fair comparison since they both have a high hollow grind from the same manufacturer with a 20 mm height) the thinner blade will always slice better. Does the Sebenza cut twice as good as the Umnumzaan? Probably not.

I used to think Spyderco's looked ugly as sin, but as of now I've owned more of those than any other knife brand :)

Indeed, Spyderco knives have a way of doing that don't they :)
I will admit that I am biased when it comes to CRK knives. My first one was the Umnumzaan. The textured Ti, ceramic ball, polyurethane stop pin bushings, made the regular Sebenza a little more mundane to me.

Have you considered the A.G. Russell Acies? You get a Titanium frame lock with a Hinderer Stabilizer, ZDP-189 steel and dual thumb studs. The knife feels really good in the hand and the blade shape is wonderful, it my be the sharpest knife out of the box that I've ever purchased .

Another great knife for the money is the Spyderco Sage 2, Titanium frame lock and the blade opens and closes as smooth as silk and it fits the hand like a glove.

I agree with Dagon, I've heard nothing but great things about Klotzli knives.... So many good choices.

Good luck!

I recently bought a Large 21 and I absolutely love it! You can't go wrong buying any CRK but the Sebenza is superb!!
