looking for a new Edc for around $300. I have a zt 0450 now. Tried a few others on clouding 0562cf, but did not like the flat scales. Looking for titanium/carbon fiber. At least cpm s35vn. No auto. Normal Edc cutting tasks. I hate fixed blades for backpacking and hunting.

What say you? Thank you!

Jason

Honestly, you’ll get as much or more benefit from going to one of the big online retailers and using their search functions to define your fields of interest/requirements as you will asking here. At a minimum, do both.

There's the zt609

And lots of other options

This photo is from over at USA Made Blade, and worth the look...

If you want titanium and CF, it's got both in spades. Their carbon fiber is stunning to behold.

The S35VN is done right. I like how easy it is to get real sharp and how it stays that way for a good while.

If you don't like flat scales, you'll be happy with the rounded, delicious curves of the Spider Monkey.

You like tanto blade? They got one. Black coating? Yeah, you can have that too.

Go call @whitty over at USA Made Blade and pick one up. You'll be a fan in a heartbeat.

This is perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for info. Thank you! I love the CRK carbon fiber tanto, but can’t drop $575.

I just brought home a ZT 0609 for a guy at work to sharpen on my Wicked Edge yesterday.

S35VN has never really impressed me, but this edge was extremely bad. It was just hammered. The owner is NOT that abusive on stuff so this was pretty surprising (and there is ZERO damage to the dlc coating on his, so it hasn't been used hard)

The knife itself is a really nice, small package that's very comfortable. That part very much caught my attention.

But the condition of the edge was the one thing that would give me second thoughts.

Just save money for a bit and buy the CF crk. You will eventually might as well save money in the long run and just buy it now rather than buying knives with prices inching closer working up to it.

Also if you’re not a fan of flat handles you probably want to get the one with the cf inlays instead of cf frontscale because the non inlay crks are quite flat.

Out of academic interest, would you let me know if it holds up better after the sharpening? Some friends doing testing have been finding a pretty consistent pattern of getting improved performance out of a very wide range of steels, from many production manufacturers. Lots of chip and damage prone edges out of box, only to find good steel underneath through sharpening.

I’m not expecting it to go any particular way. This just seems like a good opportunity to ask and observe.

It's 20cv on that model and zt has been good with their 20cv. I been watching some Russian cutting tests. It performs but maybe too hard for working knife or detected? Dunno, I think if your buddy would sharpen his own stuff maybe he would pay more attention. Put a 20 degree angle for him and release into the wild :).

I think the flat on the 0562cf bothered me due to height in conjunction with the flat. I have smaller hands (glove size medium) so they are stretched out.

IMHO if I were you I would watch for Hinders on the exchange ... they are selling for around that price slightly used and they are a great value now that the market corrected and they aren't being sold for twice the original cost ...
