I received a new folder from a maker Wednesday afternoon and decided to profile and sharpen it today. Due to a lot of negative comments that I have read about this alloy, I asked Cliff for some feedback on sharpening this knife, because although I have sharpened a lot of knives in my lifetime, I have never sharpened S60V (420V). It is cryoed and is supposed to be in the 61-63 hardness range. It is definetely different than any other steel that I have sharpened. I use nothing but diamond hones, so no problem there. I intentionally left a fine "wire" and used the green compound on leather to take it off. It took a lot more effort to get this done than I have experienced on any other steel. I have a blade in S90V that is easier to take a fine wire off of. All in all I will agree with some of the comments that I have seen about taking more effort to sharpen 440V, but it's not all that bad.
