Hey Guys, I've a question for you Spyderco Gurus.

What I'm looking to do is replace my Buck 110 with a Spyderco.

So far I'm leaning heavily towards the Military or Paramilitary.

Any suggestions from you guys in the know?

if you want a slightly bigger blade the military or police three. if you want a smaller blade the para military will do.

If you like your Buck, but want a more modern interpretation, look into the J.D. Smith. Otherwise, any of the ones mentioned so far, the Stretch II, or one of the Sages.

I concur - Para2 or the Military. My personal favorites and an outstanding value. ;)

This probably should've been in the first post. The reason I'm looking for another large folder is that the 110 just rides in my pocket like a brick. I really like it on the belt but when it goes in the pocket it's just a 3 hole red brick. At work and such a belt is fine but when I'm off I don't always wear one.

Part of it is I just want a new large folder. Its been awhile since I've bought myself a folder. One more modern and with better steel is just a plus for me.

There is always a traditional type folder in my front pocket either a congress, sodbuster, trapper, or barlow. This one gets the most use but I like to have a larger one available if I have a larger job to do.

Looks like I'm barking up the right tree with the Military or Paramilitary. The Para looks to be real close to the 110 dimension wise with the 110 have about 1/2 inch longer blade.

That JD Smith looks very nice but I think with this one I want something different than I'm used to.

FWIW, plenty of differences with the Smith, they're just more subtle. 124 grams instead of 220, half as thick, one hand opening, option for clipped carry or you can save another gram or two by removing the clip. Probably would even fit in your 110's belt pouch.

Para, while lighter and not much thicker than the Smith, is wider in the pocket than the 110, as are most other Spydercos.

I'd also recommend any of the Stretch models, in either Carbon fiber or FRN.
Very easy to carry, thin light weight, and a 3.5" blade.

+1 for the Paramilitary 2. I just got one, and it's the real deal. Can't see how Spyderco can really improve on it.

Another question. I've looked around at threads but couldn't find one that answered this.

Is the Para2 gonna totally replace the Paramilitary or will they both continue to be produced?

Last I heard from Spyderco, the Para 2 is suppose to replace the original Paramilitary.

it will replace the original i remember when the military first came out. and that military compared to the military today the one today is way better looking and using. the difference is steel and washers but those changes make a big difference.

Buck just came out with a lightweight version of the 110 which looks pretty promising, but nothing compared to what you will get out of a Spyderco. I would have to go with the Stretch 2 SpyderEdge version. Ambidextrious, think, lightweight, it is a hell of a knife. I started a while back with an Endura 4 and while it was a great knife it has not seen my pocket since I got the Stretch. For an unserrated knife I'd probably go with the Paramilitary 2, especially since you're already leaning that way. Don't forget the Gayle Bradley, either. For the steel, materials, and construction it is quite literally a steal. Welcome to the addiction =)

I got a Buck 110 a couple of weeks ago and still have never carried it due to its weight and size. I really like it but boy is HUGE!
