Okay, it's not a new stencil, but rather my first. :D Awhile ago, my lovely girlfriend bought me a Personalizer Plus, but just got it in tonight (long story). Here is my first etch with it -- let me know what you think!

The forge isn't quite finished yet. It's drying and I'm waiting for a Blower to come in. It's a 16-inch diameter pipe of 1/4 steel bent to 18x14. The welding sucks but the high-speed paint is top notch. :D

Nice deep and black mark, good job! I like the stencil too, did you make your own?

Vertical forge, eh? You must be serious about this... :D

Nice work Michael!

Thanks -- yes, it did end up a little big. :D It is modeled after Bill Buxton's and after I attach a 175 cfm blower to it, it should get nice and toasty inside. :D

i like them both also. really like the etch, did you have the stencil made? care to tell us how you did the etch to get it that deep and black? :D where did you get the personaliser plus from?

The stencil is from Patricia at IMG. I kept bugging her until it was just right. :)

The Personalizer came from Jantz Supply, and I just set it to "Etch" and had the level at half power for about 20 seconds.

I like that stencil, very clean. Good design w/ the name.

Tim

BTW - Michael, I saw the springfield, mo location. I'm a fairly recent Evangel grad - hey there former neighbor :-). You don't by chance know that knifemaker working out of silver dollar city do you? I've been trying to remember his name for a few years now. Thanks.

Very nice!
You can make the edges a little crisper by giving that area a few passses with whatever paper you handrubbed with, and some WD40 as a lube.

The ever so slightly fuzzy edge is normal, and they are easy to make crisp.:D

Pat
at IMG is great to work with, what Mike said really makes and etch look good, looks like you are getting a good burn.I like the logo design

Thanks all -- I'll be etching in the house this weekend. :D

Tim -- Ray Johnson is the man at SDC. I don't know him personally but have seen his work quite a bit. If you ever come back to Springfield, drop me a line.

Nice Stencil and serious looking vertical. I am making one also and was curious about the blower size. You said 175 cfm like Buxtons? Where are you getting the blower?

Good looking mark. Light sanding will make the edges crisper.

Be sure to sand with something to back tha paper so you don't remove the black color. Some people will etch their logo and then go to the buffer to clean it up. If you do this, you can buff off the black coloring. If you etch (DC) then mark (AC) you will want to let the blade set for a while. This makes the oxides setup and get hard, then they will not buff off. I get a lot of questions about this.

Pat at IMG is very good at assisting people just starting to ecth. I recommend IMG highly. I do not know what they charge for stencils because I make my own but I do know they make a pretty good stencil for those that want to order them.

Nice logo there, Mike. Forge looks nice too! So's not to hijack the thread, I'm going to start another about the design because I have a few questions.
