Im looking at getting a new propane forge and was wondering what you guys had. I was also debating building one ( I'd order the burners if I did.) oh I'm on a bit of a budget so I'd like to do it as inexpensively as possible thanks for the advise chris

CJD, I'm in the same position as you. After several years of reading about forges, and talking with some long-time forgers, AND checking out the prices of new forges- gasp!- I'm building one. A piece of round pipe, some kaowool inside that, stabilize the kaowool with satanite or something comparable, and coat the inside with ITC-100 to make it reflective of heat so it heats faster. I haven't actually done it yet so I can't say from personal experience that it's a good design, but pretty much everyone says it is.

I'm saving for a Chiliforge. The opening and interior size works best for me.Think about the size you will need especially for curved or odd shaped pieces if you intend to heat treat in it also.

If you choose to buy one ask about the propane usage from the owners.I looked into a cheaper forge but according to what the owner told me it used more than twice the ammount of gas as the Chiliforge.

There is a sticky about forge. Some good commercial burners are Ron Reil's T-rex, and the Ellis burners. The addition of a controller ( now or later) will make the forge really useful.

I have a tutorial on my site on how to build a forge.
If you need help come down to my shop in Mass.:D
