Just finished this one, I guess you could call it a bowie. I hope the pics do it justice, as I am really pleased with how this one turned out.

The knife overall is 13 1/4'', the blade is 8'' long, and 1 1/2'' wide.

It's forged from 1/4'' 1084, flat ground and clay quenched. The finish is an 800 grit hand rubbed finish which I followed up with polishing pastes, before and after the etch.

The guard is 13 layers 1080 and 15n20, and the spacer is 312 layers 1080 and 15n20 that was going to be a W pattern, but I twisted it instead, so it has a little different than normal twits pattern.

The handle is Maple crotch wood, treated with nelsonite, then dyed.

mmmmm...flowy

hhmm, i dont know, i didnt think so, i guess one would have to hold it to really get a true feel for it, personally, I think it fits the hand nicely, maybe it's just how it looks in the pics.

I kinda feel if the handle is to fat, you cant really close your hand around it for a good grip,

but thanks all, for the advice, and praise, much appreciated

Nice hamon! I love the way the waves are random, slightly irregular, constantly changing in size. Blade is gorgeous, handle does seem a tad small relative to the size of the blade. I really like everything about the layout of the blade, you should keep this blade as one of your standard models....just tweak the handle a bit. Maybe a straight guard instead of curved?

You're right, it would have to be held to get a proper idea of how the handle would fit in the hand. I'm probably just used to seeing fatter contoured handles.

thanks alot, as far as tweaking, in which way do you mean? I kinda felt the drop to the handle would allow for a more powerful swing...or not??? im just experimenting i guess. Also, i dont really have a standard model, i just kinda wing it each time:o;)

as for the hamon, it's not really what i had anticipated, but i as well think it can out fairly decent.

on the fatter contoured handles, have you ever felt they were to much to really hold onto? just curious for future referance. kinda like a baseball bat i guess, the part you hold onto, is just enough to fit well in the hand, and allow for maximum grip as opposed to holding it by the fat end....or maybe im completely wrond in my thinking.

thanks for the advice, and thoughts,i can use all the helpful opinions i can get,and i really do like to keep these ideas in mind on future designs.:D

I have two knives with contoured handles and they are both a handful. The one I got from Adam DesRosiers is a real handful. I don't have huge hands, but I have no trouble holding on to either one. In fact, they are both very comfortable and secure in my hand.

thanks, for the info, ill keep this in mind, ya see i have very small stubby hands, kinda like paws:D , so i generally do work that feels good to me, though im sure if handled, one wouldnt be dissapointed;)
