Hi,

Name is Ryan I'm from Chicago, IL and after a few to many cocktails and showing a friend my new Fallkniven blade we are proud new owners of a PH 427 Belt Grinder. I know it is a bit much since all I have ever done is sharpen a blade before but I have a habit of going all in.

I have been reading these forums and watching non-stop videos and I just want to say what an amazing community you guys have here and I look forward to growing my skills with the lot of you.

I have spent the last 8 years or so perfecting the art of making beer and while I still enjoy it the 10+ hour days it required to brew a batch from scratch is just so hard with the kids these days. I do my best to read old threads since I am sure most of the initial questions have already been addressed at some point in time.

I am beginning the conversion of my garage from brewery to machine shop this weekend. If anyone has any suggestions and tips I am all ears. In fact if anyone has any tips at all for the new knife maker let me know.

All in all glad to be here super excited about making my first knife.

Cheers!

Welcome Ryan ...first bit of advice. I reckon you shouldn't mix your old hobby with your new one, at least not at the same time :)

Yeah people used to tell me that all time when I was brewing beer. I would try to tell them if I drank while brewing it would end in disaster. Brewing is all peaks and valleys. One minute you are going crazy because your wort just started to boil over and the next you have nothing to do for 40 minutes while everything cooks.

I'll save the beers until after I'm done in the shop :)

good luck man, I am just a collector but I admire the craftsmen, if you find the work rewarding, then go with the flow!

Welcome! A good dust collection system and a respirator will keep the metal flakes from coming out when you blow your nose. A sound system with your favorite music station helps to:)
