Hello to all the forumites

I'm a new forumite.
I leave in France and I'm a happy customer. I have bought three khukuri at the HI staff and the khukuris are the best I have never seen.
For the next khukuri I want some information.
What do you think about the Gelbu Special ?

Thanks for your help

Welcome TITI!!!!

The Gelbu Special is a great khukuri!! It's a little smaller than some of the others, but quite quick in the hand.

Being a little smaller doesn't mean it lacks in toughness though. It comes under that perspective thing you know.

It's one of 3 I am taking to the Konvention soon to take place!!

WELCOME!!

TITI,

My Gelbu special is one of my favorite khuks. It is very well balanced and as Yvsa says it is very quick in the hand! It is the only one of my khuks (besides 12" sirupati) that I don't use for outside work, but I do keep it next to the bed along with my model 629 S+W 44 Magnum--if that tells you anything about my confidence in it as a "fighter khukuri"!
Which Khukuris did you buy already? Just curious. At any rate, welcome aboard--this is the best forum I've run across and I hope you like as well.

Welcome, TITI!

I don't have a Gelbu Special yet, but I have ordered one. I can tell you that the fullers that run along both sides of the blade reduce the weight, meaning that the spine can be wider/thicker without making the blade too heavy. I think of it as "moving" some of the mass of the blade from the sides to the spine. I expect that it should be one of the strongest (I'm speaking lateral strength here) of all Uncle's khuks, pound for pound.

The Gelbu was my 2nd khukuri. (Couldn't stop with just one!)
Compared to my Shop 1 20-inch Sirupati, the Gelbu is: thicker (sharing with the AK the sobriquet of 'unbreakable'); better finished; quicker in the hand, though with ample weight for any chopping chore; BIG in the handle, both length and girth (I had to reduce the girth a bit, but since it was a cracked horn blem this went along with the rest of the repair.)
I keep this baby in the bedroom, too. It's my preferred 'fighting khukuri' (although nothing makes you appreciate the Nepalese knife style more than practicing cuts and moulinets with a long sirupati.)
I predict you'll appreciate the artistry with which the Gelbu is made, as much as its utility. Knife people to whom I have shown mine are very impressed. Non-knife people are astonished!

Hi TITI,
I'm new here too. I'm averaging about one new khukuri every three to four weeks. My second khukuri was a Gelbu Special, and I've never seen anything like it. I have about a dozen (antique) swords, and at least two dozen fixed blades and folders, in addition to some practice weapons, but my favorite is the Gelbu. It has a rare balance of beauty and strength, and in my opinion is the best. (For khukuri comparison I have an Ang Kola, Gelbu, and a WWII, and will soon be ordering others.)
