What do you guys think of my new frame lock design. I've already made a non flipper titanium frame lock, so I thought it would be fun to try a flipper. The only problem I see is the flipper might be top narrow. What do you think?
Right you be! The flipper, itself, looks like it would snag things too much and be uncomfortable. Maybe the closed position ( too far) should have the top of the blade align with the angle at the bottom, rear of the handle. The rest looks great.
Thank you. This one will be about a 3 inch blade and a 4 inch handle. I would've made it bigger, but that's as big as I could fit on the chuck of titanium and steel. When I order some more materials I'll make a few more but with 3 1/2 inch blades and 4 1/2 inch handles.
I think that your stop pin is too far behind the pivot, you want the flipper tab as far forward as possible. Doing line drawings is ok but making a paper template for both blade and handle will assure that everything will work when you transfer the pattern to steel.
This is what I've got so far. I still need to cut the lock, set the detent, and grind the blade. Its pretty smooth, but I think I might try some bearings. Any suggestions?
Well now that you've asked.
To me it looks like a potato. The straight lines arent straight, the curved lines are vague. The prototype is better than the drawing but be sure the drawing is perfect first.
I hope I didn't run you away. There is allot to learn and youve come to the right place. If you want to improve I would be happy to help you via emails.

I guess I don't really understand what you mean when you say the straight lines aren't straight and the curved lines are vague. If you could elaborate a bit more on that, I would appreciate it. I went ahead and made a carbon fiber with a toxic green bolster for it today. I think it looks a lot better than just plain titanium.
