New FRN Delica W/ <3" Blade Out?

I've been away for a while and haven't been able to check. I ran a search but couldn't find anything. In a thread a while back Sal said that all of the Delica's would go back under 3 inches. I know the Olive drab isn't. I have to replace my old FRN work Delica. The clip is broken and it's been abused terribly. (I know, my fault.) I need an under 3 inch blade for legal reasons. I have a CF version but don't want to use it at work. Soooo...does anyone know when the new blades in FRN will be hitting the shelves?

Gman,

The s/s Delica still retains the "old style" < 3" blade at approx. 2 7/8" or so.

Hi Gadgetman, it will still be a while (2 months anyway?). We make quite a few Delica blades at a time and the next run will begin the change.

In reality, I cannot imagine that 1/16th of an inch (.062) sixty two one thousandths of an inch, would make a big diffence in most places.

You could probably convince SFO to grind one down for a $10 bill but you'd have to pay full retail at SFO.

Otherwise, patience will have to work. I will say that the new VG-10 Delica is a highly functional performer that carries very easily.

I have to agree with Sal, if you are arrested for a knife 1/16" over the limit, you must have been doing something else and the cops are justs piling on charges to make sure something sticks. I think that in a 3" jurisdiction, someone who uses discretion with a Delica will have no trouble.

Normally I would agree with both of you. But I'll explain why it matters to me. I work in and around military bases and government buildings that have a 3" limit. (Yes, they do measure and are that picky.) The next question is why don't I just carry a Salsa or a Dragonfly. (I do at Federal buildings that have a 2.5" limit.) But when possible I do carry the Delica because I like the blade better. I don't carry the SS version because it's heavy in dress pants and I don't carry the CF version becuse I tend to beat up these knives. I appreciate the responses and maybe I'm anal but it's a real hassle not to be able to carry my favorite knife.

Anthony, you might be right about the police but why give them a chance? In my experience there are good and bad cops. Some that are helpful and some that are on a power trip. I have been "annoyed" by an uninformed policeman who didn't like the fact that I was carrying a small .38 in the mall here even though I had a permit. I don't intentionally violate laws because I have a security clearance and a weapons charge would be hard to explain.

Anyway, thank you Sal for the answer and for shortening the blade by that pain-in-the-butt 1/16" of an inch. I'll see if I can pick up a new one after Christmas.

Gadgetman, you do have point. A jerk could nail someone for 1/16" of an inch. Generally speaking, I would rather be a sixteenth under rather than over just to be safe.
