I just received my new Gayle Bradley 2 today. Blade centering is perfect with no play horizontally or vertically, so I’m very happy with that.

I have two questions. The first is how does the lockup look to you in the picture? I’m thinking it’s just fine how it is, not too early or too late, but just wanted to make sure.

The second is about the detent strength. If you hold the knife closed with the blade facing down and give it a good shake the blade will come out. The only other knives I have that do this are my Benchmade 940s. None of my Spyderco knives do this. Is this normal? I’m meaning a good hard shake, not a little one. I don’t think I’d ever do that any time other than now to see how the knife reacts to it. Thanks.

In the lockup picture, how was it opened? Smooth thumb open, or quick flick? Either way it is not bad, but I'd rather that lockup be with a quick/hard deployment on a brand new GB2. Nice pic BTW - check out those PB washers.

That lockup will be fine. The GBs use a steel liner lock so it will take forever for it to wear away. That lock has plenty of life and full engagement. I think the locks that lockup so early they are not fully behind the blade to be more likely to slip.

Also if I hold a closed knife so the pivot side is pointing down, then give a hard fast semicircular wrist snap downwards, I can get almost any folding knife to pop open.

mine has the same lockup. think its done by design to be more secure....as ive seen a few from differnt batches and they all were mid lockup like yours and mine. detent, never tried that...its enough to keep the knife from opening when in pocket but it isnt zt detent strong on mine.

I would have preferred an earlier lockup meaning the end of the lock just barely pass the edge of the blade lock interface.

As far as detent unfortunatelly for me I have sold all my Benchmades becasue of that weak detent and blade flying out with slightest flick. Then again the axis lock doesnt have a detent right?

Thank you. The lock bar moves over to the same position when I open it smoothly or by flicking it. I thought there would be a difference, but there isn’t. My god, this blade moves so smoothly. I should have bought one of these sooner. I’ve been debating on it for a few months now.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. That makes me feel better. This knife looks and operates perfectly in every way, then. I can tell I will be using this a lot already.

That’s good to know yours and others are the same. You make a great point about the lock being more secure that way. I think the detent is strong enough. I wouldn’t ever be shaking it like that in any real world use. I think I tried that because I couldn’t believe how smooth the blade is when opening and closing.

You make a good point about the Benchmades. All my 940s do it easily. I didn’t even think about the axis locking knives not having a detent.

Thanks. That’s great to know. Looks like I’ve received a perfect specimen of this knife. I’m really happy with it so far.:thumbsup:

The GBs are just some of the best most practical knives ever put out by Spyderco. There are so many other great Spydie models, but the GBs are pair of real masterpieces.

I can see why you that. The more I use it, the more I like it. I’m getting used to unlocking the knife using my thumb nail because of how it’s recessed. I have no plans of taking a dremel to it to make it easier. I like it how it is now and don’t want to take the risk of possibly damaging the knife or mangling the look of it.

My GB2 will open if I shake it really hard (to the point that I would be concerned about actually losing my grip on the knife). Not the sort of thing I'd ever do intentionally, and not a concern that it has a loose detent.

Thanks for that info. That's the same way mine is. Looks like it's normal if you do that purposefully. Like you said, I'd never do it intentionally during day to day use. I was just surprised how smooth the action of the knife was and tried that to see what would happen.
