Are there any significant changes between the newer 2011/2012 model of the GB and the first one to come out? (I think weight I've read, but not sure)

I've been wanting one for quite a bit now and I'd like to make sure there isn't something I should look out for between older or newer models.

Thanks!

The older one had non-skeletonized liners and was, as such, somewhat heavier than the newer variant. Don't know off the top of my head how much weight was shed, though.

I've owned both. From what I remember, the design is exactly the same with the exception of the liners and the blade markings. The newer models have liners that are lighter (I can't remember the terminology used). Same thickness, they just have a series of holes in them to remove what might be considered unneeded material. The new blades have the "Gayle Bradley Weatherford" and "Taichung" (area of manufacture in Taiwan) labels on them. I bought the early model new and a while later, during a late night lapse, forgot I had it and bought a newer one. I don't really collect and figured I didn't need two, so I sold the early model. In my opinion, either one would be just fine unless you're a stickler for a few grams weight and some labeling. Otherwise, same great blade, liner lock, and scales. No material changes that I'm aware of. I see them for sale here occasionally for very reasonable prices. Of course you can still get new ones from many shops. Mike

The early GB, the one without drilled liners weighed 5.5 ounces, while the newer one, with the drilled liners weighs 5.3 ounces. So difference is .02 of an ounce.

I don't think so

Too pressed for time to dig in with the search right this moment, but going on recollection, it is true. Some number of knives came back from multiple Rc tests at very high (64-65, IIRC) values, and I believe there have been posted test results for later GBs with results several points lower. Right now I'm going on memory rather than research, so I'm open to correction.

i read that too, iirc the crew confirmed that a batch slipped with a different temper that came out harder, 64 is also what i read and the "normal ones" are run around 62.

mine is supposed to have the normal blade but no skeletonized liners and no taichung etching. still keeps a great edge more than enough for my edc ...

I have had both..

I have carried them pretty much exclusively for the past year or more. I sold the early one after 3 months
Of edc, and then.....
Got the new one. There is a slight difference in weight, and my preference is the newer model. Mine holds and edge and the scales still look like new. Is it Sebenza.. No. But,would I rather have 3 GB's than one sebbie? Yes.
Ounce for ounce it is the best folder slightly north of 100.00 on the planet. Either knife is great and I would not worry about a few rc points. The new lighter one holds an edge forever.

So the only difference being a 1/5 of an ounce and some labeling, and some RC points. Awesome, thanks a lot!

Definitely my next knife I'll have to get. Looks like a elegant beast. How do you guys feel about the carbon fiber on it? Is it more similar to the Caly 3 or Sage CF?

I wonder if anyone knows the two letters on the box of the ones with the 64/65 RC?

Obviously no big problem or anything, just think it would be cool to own.

M4 is a rust bucket, here in the heat it will pit fast, just a heads up to keep it oiled or waxed,,

back to op,the lighter liners and the markings were the only thing....

AFAIK, no one has ever identified the transition date. That's assuming that my recollection that the Rc level changed is right in the first place.

It's the same type of CF used on the Sage CF, i.e. raised weave.
